Why bet half pot on the turn?

raise to 5.50 on flop and 9 on turn.

River is ugly, you bet too small on earlier streets and it makes it a little tougher. I'm not too sure if its a call or not...

You're stringing him along with that small flop raise and small turn bet, and in a way that's just as well if you're going to fold the river just because the 7(!) on the board paired versus a preflop raiser.

He probably had AQ, peeled the flop, peeled again on the turn with overs and a gutshot, and took a desperation stab on the river "scare" card.

Okay, he didn't "probably" have that, but I think you need to call this river, getting 5:2.

I do think you should play your hand stronger on the flop and turn, although usually what will happen is that Villain will fold to your flop raise (and when he doesn't, you'll often be in trouble). The chances that you have the best hand are quite good on the flop, and hand protection does count for something.

I'd 3bet this pf to get a better idea where I'm at, but flatting is fine, raise more on the flop, bet more on the turn. As played I like the river fold bc of top card pairing. (either he has it, or he should be afraid of it)
