Could someone post (or provide a link) to a straight forward explaination of how RB typically works when there is also a sign-up bonus?

To make the math simple let's say I sign up and get RB of 25% at a site that offers a 100%, $100 max sign-up bonus (10X hands to clear.) I know someone the RB is charged against your bonus, but I'm still a little fuzzy on the whole thing.

OK, let's take Full Tilt. You get a 100% $600 bonus. Let's say in the first month, you rake $3000 at 6-player tables. This gets you 3000 FTP, which is $180 bonus credited to you. Your rake contribution was $3000/6 = $500, but Full Tilt deducts the $180 bonus you've gotten, so your MGR is $320, and you get 27% of $320 as your rakeback.

Did I get this wrong?

MGR is the total amount of rake paid...how this is calculated varies from site to site. IF you are playing at a site that deducts bonuses from MGR, then it is deducted before your RB is calculated. For example, if your MGR was $500 at a site in a given month, and you cleared $100 in bonus in the same month, your RB would be calculated on $400 (500-100). If you received 30% RB there, you would be getting $120, as opposed to $150 (30% of $500) if you hadn't cleared the bonus. Your $100 in bonus cost you $30 in RB.

Not every site deducts bonuses. For example, FT deducts all bonuses (among many other things), UB deducts 25% of your bonus, Cryptologic doesn't deduct bonuses.
