I can't remember why I checked the turn, but I should have bet it. I think I also should have just called the river raise.

A bigger raise preflop would be better but there is nothing much you can do here. I wouldn't fold this FH not in a thousand years. Especially at this limit.
The fact that you checked the turn doesen't change anything because if he has a queen or a 66+ pair he will put you anyway allin. Some poor players will be allin even with a small pocket pair like 33.
Next time post at least some info avout the villain and your image at the table.
