Hey everyone. A buddy of mine is regrouping after some unfortunate events and spending his bankroll on "toys" like a DLP TV, a crossbow, etc.

He's a very good limit holdem player who has had success at 10/20 and lower live, and has played online up to 5/10 successfully.

He's taking $400 and starting over on Friday, but isn't sure where to deposit. He'd like to take advantage of some bonus opportunities if possible, but can always just go play at Party .50/1, which is the level he'll start at no matter where he goes. He's slightly worried that the bonus overlay at a more difficult site won't overcome the bad play at Party, with no rakeback / bonus.

He has Pokertracker and uses Gametime. He also has rakeback at Eurobet, if this matters. He's not against checking out any of the PokerRoom skins, but we're all confused by the different offers that are out there. Are the 50% rakeback bonuses at FCP and Bayou better or worse than the offers at Eurobet and others, etc.......

Where should he go, all things considered?

Tell him to take the crossbow and rob a casino. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
Or he can just 8 table party with 50.00 on each table. Its hard to find a lot of bonuses at .50/1 anymore (but not impossible)...I think Bet365 is even 1/2 now to clear. Try to Boss Media sites...when I played them a while ago it was easy to clear even at nano-limits.

He's got two crappy monitors which don't allow him to play more than 2 tables without overlap, and he's not that 8-table kind of guy.

Looks like it may wind up being Eurobet with the deposit bonus. How bad can a .50 / 1 game be, and it's got to have some kind of overlay value.....

Paradise first.. Easy and fast and clears at 0.5/1.

Tell him to play for new years tickets, should be able to win at least 500 bucks in a week if he multitables and goes to showdown with all trips or better. 5-8 .50/1.00 will do it over the week. Could even earn more.

Assuming he already has a Party account, I would suggest he just grind it out at Party at this point. Does he already have a Party account? If not then he might want to take full advantage of the bonus, and would need $500 for that. So if he 1) does not have a PArty account, and 2) can't borrow or somehow scrape up another $100 then I would take the $400 to PokerStars and win enough to build it to $500, then go to Party.

EDIT: The reason is that Party games are super soft.

Overlap isnt as bad as people here make it out to be. Ive played 4-5 tables on my laptop with almost 1/3 of the table overlay. It's fine. If he doesnt have a party account, there are numerous sites that offer way better than the standard 20% $100 deal.

Yes, he's got a party account already. I am leaning towards recommending the Eurobet bonus / rakeback, until he can springboard back to party with $500 for the poker players alliance or for IGMPAY. Hey, does IGMPAY still even work?

There are a couple of issues with him doing the Eurobet bonus. 1) It will clear SUPER SLOW at .5/1 (source: BW). Considering the higher rake at the PokerRoom network he might actually be better off just playing Party with no bonus. 2) he does not have enough money to take advantage of the full bonus (100% to $600).

What about Empire? If he hasn't got an account there is a 100% 5x deposit bonus (up to $100 I think).

Eurobet's bonus at .50/1 will take 20,000+ hands, just to let you know...

I make a calendar for each month and try to maximize the amount of bonus I can receive, remembering that my primary focus is finding games that are readily beatable.

This has been PokerRoom (and skins) for me since October, since I'm beating the .5/1 game for ~3.5BB/100, over 50,000 hands. I'll be playing at EB through the end of this month. The software is something of a resource hog, though, and I've found that my PT doesn't always match. I do keep offline records of sessions, though.

Bottom line: Have your friend spend a day doing nothing but research on BW. Also, don't forget to check in the classifieds here for deals.

In december, Bet365's new signup bonus was $100 clearable at .50/$1. It's the monthlies that are $1/$2.

Or at least, it was that way in December.

Really easy bonus, too.

If he is truly a "very good limit holdem player" and can play 5/10 online successfully, I can't see any reason to play .5/1 anywhere unless he is incredibly risk adverse. With $400, he has the roll to play 1/2 and can take shots at 2/4 as well once he builds the roll a little more (yes, I know there is some ROR, but a successful 5/10 player would have to run into a brick wall to drop his whole roll at 1/2 - especially since he can always drop down if he has a couple disastrous sessions).

Again, assuming he is in fact good, and not a break-even bonus whore, the boost in profit per hour will be much higher by moving up regardless of where he chooses to play or what bonuses are offered.

Regardless of that, at the lower limits, I've found the reduced rake at Stars to overcome the player skill advantage at Party if you're playing without bonus/rakeback. The sign-up at Bet365 is pretty good, and the players are very weak-tight.

One of his goals is to manage his money better. He is convinced that he was an idiot for leaving himself so short, and is not going to repeat the same mistakes.

That said, I'm sure he'll sprinkle in some 1/2 6max while he's building, but in general he wants to stick to the hard and fast 300bb rule.
