What hands do we beat here? A few pocket pair combos. What if he c/r the flop? Seems like we'll lose more chips than if we checked the flop then bet/call the turn.

I would do the exact opposite of what you did..... bet the flop to see if he has a Queen. If you get called there you might aswell shut down, maybe check/call down if you feel like it. IMO all these face cards hit a huge part of villains range. Turn check raise, can usually beat TPTK or AA....
