I saw that Titan Poker is offering up to $500 sign-on bonuses to new customers.

Just curious- is there anything to stop the average joe, say someone who has never played poker and doesn't ever intend to, just cruise through every site on the internet, open accounts, deposit enough to collect the max bonus, and then withdraw everything and walk away with thousands of dollars of free money? Do these sites work together to watch for these types, or do they just let it go and chalk it up as a cost of doing business? If the latter is the case, then they must really give up a lot of dough each year (which they presumably can afford, given the ferocity of the overall demand to actually play and pay rakes/fees) to snipers who just take the free money, correct?

To actually receive the cash from a bonus the player must clear the amount by playing X number of raked hands. So if you simply deposited and withdrew you would only receive your initial deposit back.

What is the typical value of X?

Can you just play a handful of hands at the micro-limits to qualify, or do they have to get a specific dollar amount in rakes from you? If it's the former, then that's still a very low-risk way to make a reasonable amount of extra cash on a random weekend.

It's different for every site. Check the T&C for the bonus. Titan's bonus sucks for micros, btw.

In case you're actually serious, X is typically between 5 x the dollar amount of the bonus to a number that really sucks and makes working at McDonald seem like a dreamjob. There may also be restrictions on limits and type of games that count.

Consult each specific site for their terms.
