I have no experience with threebetting preflop without aces kings or queens, i think thats why its so messed up.

Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.05/$0.10 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter (http://www.legopoker.com/hh))

SB: $7.85
Hero (BB): $9.85
UTG: $9.40
CO: $3.40
BTN: $21.65

Reads: <font color="blue">CO is a maniac, BTN a station, SB TAG. I've been playing TAG.</font>

Preflop: Hero is dealt A/images/graemlins/diamond.gif K/images/graemlins/spade.gif (5 Players)
UTG calls $0.10, <font color="red">CO raises to $0.50</font>, BTN calls $0.50, SB calls $0.45, <font color="red">Hero raises to $2.50</font>, UTG folds, CO calls $2.00, BTN calls $2.00, SB folds

Flop: ($8.10) Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif 9/images/graemlins/diamond.gif 2/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (3 Players)
<font color="red">Hero bets all-in for $7.35</font>

What wouldve been the correct play here?

check obviously, you missed the flop, you're oop and there are too many players in the pot, preflop seems fine to me.
I just take my loss and let the hand go

Multi-way, easy check-fold OOP. Heads-up it's definitely closer.

yeah, ez check- don't be so quick to put your money in WB, but i think you see that without even posting, as played PF is fine

w/ 2 ppl left to act behind on the flop you have to c/f. Since you hold AK too its likely someone else has a Qx hand (well not neccessarly but yea). If it was heads up then this could be ok but not mulitway.
