On really draw heavy boards I bite the bullet and fire turn even when top pair pairs.

I don't understand why you checked the turn. He could be drawing to a diamond and you gave him a free card. Two pair is a decent holding and the board could become horrifying if a diamond hits, why not bet it?

I think he might call your flop bet with JJ,77,88 (for the set), any two diamonds (say 54s-JTs, AJ-AKs), QQ. You're in good shape against this range until the river, and then you are way behind.

You realize that the Jack barely helped our hand, right?

I agree, you should have bet the turn here.

Im ok with how OP played this hand. OFten a villain will bluff bet that river with a missed diamond or a retarded 2pr. Betting the turn any amount commits us to calling a shove over.

Push turn. Profit vs 99/TT/QQ/AdKd.

Checking the turn is horrible here in a 3bet pot. The odds that villain has a J here are quite diminished, so we bet here for pure value as well as to charge any draw, not to mention it keeps us from getting bluffed off the best hand more often than not, on the river.

Actually, when the board comes off with a pair of the top card on the board, it has now become less likely your opponent holds that card and more likely it is a drawing hand. The downside is your position plays a huge part in how to proceed to get the most value or lose the least, depending on where you stand.
