The players in my home game decided to try and send one of us to the an event at the Rio this year. We did this by playing the Sunday tournament each week at the local card room and pooling our winnings. We ended up with about $4900 and decided to toss in the rest and send one guy to the WSOP.

He made the final table of a $5000 event and all drove over to Las Vegas to watch the final table, only to find he was playing inside of that tent and only two of us could get in to watch him play.

I have been wondering ever since why more players didn't object to that damn tent arrangement (other than Matusow). Finally, I found an article about the whole stupid idea on www.pokerblog.com (http://www.pokerblog.com) but I wonder why there hasn't been more of an uproar about this?

Am I wrong, is this a good thing for poker?

Its good because it is broadcast on the net with hole cards. Each player can bring 2-3 friends too so maybe you arent that tight with said player.

if he wanted to pocket the money why would he say he made the final table genius

Yes & No, I don't like the fact a live viewing audience cannot be inside the "tent", but I love the online video and seeing the hole cards.

They need to build an an arena like Mansion Pokerdome so it can be viewed live with an audience, possible even sequester a larger audience so the players could have a "home field" advantage and give off the feel and excitement that fans bring.

Creative minds can solve this in a way where all will benefit, whether they will is another story

The sequestrium is a good thing, but the price they are charging the public to view it is another. They (whoever is making that profit: Bluff, Harrah's etc.) should give the players who make those final tables a kickback or something from that money.

The same with ESPN, they should be giving $$$ to everyone they continue to make "stars" @ their final tables. This would reduce at least some of the complaints there are or would be. Maybe...

I posted this on pocketfives a while back regarding this subject:

The only way to broadcast is with a tape delay, if you tape delay, the players must be sequestered. While sequestration harms friends and family who are there who can't watch live, the broadcast helps bring the event to friends and family who are not there. By the way, watching live in a stadium and not being able to see hole cards is boring as hell, I'd take the tape delay broadcast any day as a poker fan.

Television/broadcasting of events can be looked at multiple ways. Short term, the players are being inconvenienced, forced to show their hole cards (which all the top players who have now made millions due to television did not want to do), etc. Long term, television and broadcasting create more interest in the game, and have created the massive fields and corresponding massive purses we see at the World Series today.

Is a one hour tape delay that much more marketable than say a twelve hour delay? I know the net would already have reported the results by then but winners were reported on the internet this year before the one hour delay ran.

Seems like there ought to be a compromise that does not effect the game or the competitors. And what about the idea that Hellmuth had an advantage when he was locked in with those amateurs, when he won his eleventh?

After hearing what happened at many of the final tables (where (drunken) spectators ruined it for the participants), I think having the final table seq. is a great idea, and quite frankly, that they should do it for all events.

Nothing like having a bunch of rowdy drunks standing a foot away from the final table to disrupt your game if you happen to be at the final table, to convince you of the benifits of a a sequestrium.

Not to say that they couldn't change it so that there is at least 30 feet of clearence from the audiance for the final table, and that they forbid drinking by the audiance if they want to be there.

At the final table in australia, there was no audience. We were essentially in a sequestered area with literally NO people allowed in the room. There was a closed circuit tv system set up throughout the casino, but no one allowed in. It sucked. It really did. I wanted my friends there, I wanted to see the yelling or the cheering, I wanted to be able to go over and talk to them, and honestly in the long run it might have cost me the tournament to not easily be able to go over and talk to my friends before playing HU. Not to mention it's not nearly as cool for the cameras.

Results were delayed an hour as well.

I'm glad I was sequestered for my final table. Having a video of the whole final table with hole cards and commentary is awesome.

No they were not. My friend busted 4th and was interviewed immediately by Bluff and while that was happening out in the hall at least three internet sites were standing there posting the results. No one delayed the results except Bluff.

QFT. Hell, one of the things I love about MTT play is getting sweated when I reach a FT. It's quite cool having 10 people cheer you on at a final table when you're playing for relatively big money.

That's what I think too - if you're a true poker fan paying $50 bucks to get inside the WSOP, why do you need to see the hole cards? If you're just a casual fan who likes hole cards and drama, just watch ESPN.
