View Full Version : NL 25 - Confused with PP

Just starting NL25 again, took a 6 month break from poker.
Here is an interesting hand I had that I know for a fact I played wrong.

I made a standard raise on the button with Pocket 8's. Got reraised by BB so I called hoping to flop a set. BB led out with a Cbet, and I called hoping to make a move on the turn. Then I didn't have the guts to throw out a bet, but ended up doing so on the river.

fold pf if he hasnt been getting out of line. def fold pf if its the 1st time hes 3bet you. fold the flop prolly. why are you betting on the river? im assuming youre bluffing, if so bet more. but really just fold pf.

Call me nitty, but I probably would have folded the flop. As played I'm checking behind on the river - can't see many hands we're beating calling a bet.

I would fold pre-flop and on the flop here.

I don't mind the preflop call if BB is a good player to set mine against. But I just fold the flop here.

Yeah, on the river I was trying to represent the Jack that came on the river, hoping to get him off the king if he had it. But I also noticed that he slowed down after I called his Cbet, which is why I tried the play on the river.

What would be a good sized bet for this?

Best bet size there is 0, but if you want to bluff, I would bet close to the size of the pot. Villain is very rarely going to be certain enough you have a jack there to fold no matter what you do on the river based on the rest of the hand.

I would have folded on the flop here.

Don't get fancy in NL25, just play solid poker. While you think your bet was representing a jack, he was paying no attention to your bet or your hand. Most players at this level only think about one thing: their own hand.

You called hoping to flop a set knowing you were probably behind to his hand. KJx came down so you missed your set, Why were you hoping to make a move on the turn?
What range did you place him on preflop that *completely* missed this flop?

Yeah, he's possibly doing a continuation bet, but you're drawing to two outs (a flush might be half an out, but then again, it's very unlikely, and even if you hit it, it may not be good)...

This is the kind of flop that you're probably better off white flagging it. But if you feel like you're ahead here you need to raise. None of this calling down with a vulnerable hand business.

If you were OOP on this flop, you should consider open folding for metagame.
