Should be a great final table with plenty of play. Nice saying that when referring to a WPT final.

Near the end of the night the song "pass the doche to the left hand side" was playing. I took that as a sign Shane was taking this tourney down.

A Few more facts about this tournament:

-There were 535 entrants @ 10K a pop. BeL0WaB0Ve has been either overall chip boss or @ the top 5 in chips throughout the ENTIRE tournament.

-This will be Danny Wong's 2nd WPT Final Table IN A ROW and 3rd for the year!!! He finished 6th @ both the World Poker Challenge in Reno and @ Mandalay Bay in early June for $113,913 and $76,515 respectively.

I certainly would not be upset if he were to win this, I'm a sucker for consistancy /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

-The WPT is trying out a new blind structure for this final table. If it goes over well it may be instituted from here on out. If it takes wayyyy too long to complete this final it may get tossed out, but here are the specifics:

Previously @ WPT final tables the blinds would roll back a level and be 60mins a level until Heads-Up when it got shortened to 30mins a level. This was made to speed up the tapings to get it done in a particular amount of time.

Now for this final table the structure will remain UNCHANGED and play str8 thru with 90-minute levels until Heads-Up when it shrinks to 60-minute levels. IMO this is a vast improvement and will give the players the amount of play they are looking for when playing for so much $$$ @ the end of these major tournaments.

I wish everyone the best of luck and I'll be sweating! /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Kevin Saul opens again for 77,000 and Danny Wong calls from the small blind after carefull consideration.

The flop comes 874. Wong bets 135,000 and Saul makes the call. The turn brings the 10 and Wong takes his time again before betting 225,000. Kevin Saul moves all-in and this time Danny calls quickly. Saul shows KJ while Danny shows AA.

The river is a 6, missing Saul's gutshot straight draw, and allowing Danny to double up to 1.685 million.

After the hand Mike Matusow tells the self proclaimed online legend, "This Ain't the internet son!"

Mike Matusow raises from middle position and Kevin Saul makes the call for 75,000 from the small blind

The flop comes 10 9 5 and Mike bets 225,000. Kevin calls.

The turn is the 2. Saul checks again and Mike makes another strong bet of 300,000. Kevin calls.

The river brings the 8 and Kevin checks for a third time. Mike bets 300,000 and Kevin calls him down. Matusow shows a set of nines, and all Saul can do is muck. This is the third pot in a row he has lost

J.C. Gloves
07-15-2007, 08:00 PM
Then 10mins later this hand:

Shane Schleger opens the pot for a 74,000 raise and is called by Kevin Saul. The flop comes QJ2 and Shaniac checks it over to Saul who bets 121,000. Schleger makes the call.

The turn is the 8 and Schleger checks for a second time. Saul leads out again and bets a quarter of a million chips. Schleger check-raises to 700,000. Kevin asks how much more he has left and Schleger says "Just over a million." He then goes into the tank for several minutes before making the call.

The river brings the A and they check it down. Shane shows 10-9 for the straight and 'BeLOWaBOVe' countinues his downward spiral.

Down to 5

Action folds to Konstantin Puchkov who calls in the small blind. Mike Matusow checks his option. The flop comes Q-6-4 with two hearts. Puchkov checks and Matusow bets 35,000. Puchkov calls. The turn is the 3 and Puchkov checks again. Matusow bets 250,000 and Puchkov moves all-in for 198,000. Matusow makes the call and shows Q9 and has the best hand against Puchkov's Q5.

The river is the 8 eliminating Puchkov in 6th place. He will collect $103,280.

Matusow is now up to 3,600,000.

J.C. Gloves
07-15-2007, 09:40 PM
Then about 5-10mins later:

Shaniac Doubles Through BeL0WaB0Ve

Kevin Saul opens for 85,000 from under the gun. Shane Schleger moves all-in from the big blind for 1,307,000 more. Kevin asks for time, counts out the call, and then asks Danny Wong, who isn't even in the hand how much he has behind. To which Matusow says "We all know you're a weird guy, that's why I like you."

Kevin calls.

Shane shows AK
Kevin AQ

The flop comes J75. The turn is the 6. Shane needs to dodge a quuen to stay alive and he does as the river is the 7. Shane doubles up to 2.8 million.

Shane Schleger: definitely Phil Gordon-esque in mannerisms and general mouth positioning, and I'm sure Shane himself has even heard this comparison made in the past. Anyone saying otherwise is either a friend who construes this as an insult, or has never actually seen Phil Gordon before.

Down to the final 4 we would wanna see:

Eric Panayiotou moves all-in from under the gun in the first hand of the new level. Kevin Saul Makes the call.

Saul shows AK
Eric shows J10

The board comes 10945A and Panyiotou is eliminated in 5th place collecting $154,920.

Kevin is riding high on his roller coster day and is now at 4.6 million.

Updated chip counts:
Blinds 20K/40K (5K)

Kevin Saul - 4,659,000
Mike Matusow - 3,186,000
Shane Schleger - 1,668,000
Danny Wong - 1,154,000

J.C. Gloves

Danny Wong Doubles thru hitting Quads in the Process:

Kevin Saul raises to 125,000 from the button and Danny Wong makes the call from the big blind. The board comes K88. Danny checks and Kevin bets 200,000. Wong thinks and raises to 500,000 and Kevin moves all-in. The usually cautious Wong INSTA-calls and stands up as he shows 98. Saul shows KQ.

The turn is the 3 and the river is the 8 and Danny makes quad eights.

Danny finally takes down a big hand and doubles up to 2.916 million. Danny has been checking a lot of flops to Kevin only to fold most hands after a bet. Danny's passive play in the past finally pays off as he was waiting to hit a hand against Kevin.

Kevin Saul raises to 175,000 and Shane Schleger moves all-in for about 1,700,000. Kevin goes into the tank for several minutes before making the call with AJ.

Schleger shows A6.

The door card is a 6 but it is followed by J10. The turn is a K and the river is the 4 eliminating Shaniac from the tournament in 4th place for $232,490.

Saul now has 4.5 million

I'm not a big WPT fan so I'm yet to see Danny in action AFAIK, after this FT I'll probably be rooting for him in the future.

Another quick fact about Danny Wong- Last year's Bellagio Cup Championship event was not televised but they still held a $10K buy-in. Danny Wong finished 2nd to Shannon Shorr...(but I believe they chopped so dunno the $$$ specifics, go figure)

BeL0WaB0Ve FTW?

All three players limp and see a flop of 763. Kevin Saul leads out for 100,000 and Danny Wong raises to 350,000. Saul makes the call and they see a turn of the J. Kevin leads out again for 100,000. Wong re-raises to 700,000.

Saul re-raises all-in.

Wong stands up from his seat and makes the call.

Saul shows J3.
Wong shows 76.

The river is the 9 and Saul Doubles up HUGE with two pair to 8,400,000. Wong is left with just under one million chips.

Bummer for Mikey, missed with an open-ended straight flush draw vs. overpair to pull even.

GG Shane and Danny.

Can't wait to watch this final on TV early next year.

Bel0w looked like he was going to go down old-Mikey style, props to him for holding it together and getting HU with a massive lead after the horrid start.
Looks like Mikey played pretty flawlessly too, I was hoping he'd keep his cool and pick up at least 2nd.
Shaniac's due to take down a big one soon, stay focused and it'll be sick as when it comes man.

GG all.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm one of the few folks who actually like Phil, but he comes off as arrogant. Shane comes off as cool, mellow, & confident, or coolfident as I like to say. Seems like nothing bothers him, and he's not trying to show that he's better than you. He just can't help it that he is;)

Shane's winning his next big FT. I'm willing to put cash down on it.

Oh, and BTW, that reporter wanted him bad. I hope Shane didn't break her heart too bad...

Yo!

Thanks everybody, I didn't have a computer around me for the entirety of this tournament (perhaps being seperated from the internet worked to my benefit?), so I didn't have a chance to chime in or update any blogs. Feels so [censored] good to be back home and I'm gonna try to chill out and write for a little while.

Fwiw, I do try not to suck during interviews, but a few things to keep in mind: They grabbed me for this as I was on the way out the door, trying to get to my room for break, so it was completely impromptu. Also, I still haven't figured out how to make a poker hand sound interesting without getting bogged down in details, and I don't really have an opinion on "15 minute breaks" or other mundane details of the tournament. If, for instance, she had asked me about the dude who wanted to kill me and David Oppenheim with 3 or 4 tables left, it might have made for a better talk. Also, fwiw, I didn't detect anything more than generic friendliness from Kimberly, but she's definitely an attractive woman, and I'm flattered that you all thought she wanted me.

Also, congrats to Kevin. He played his heart out and earned the win. All in all, a decent experience.
