Looking at the list of the last 47 players remaining in the main event, I have only ever heard of six of them:

Kenny Tran
Lee Watkinson
Bill Edler
Scotty Nguyen
Alex Kravchenko
Daniel Alaei

Of that group, Nguyen is the only true TV "superstar," though Watkinson and Alaei have had some good TV time. I don't believe Edler's WPT has aired, Tran has only appeared on "Cash Poker," and I know Kravchenko only because I recognized him as winning a bracelet earlier this month.

I have read about Hevad Khan being the 28-SNG player. Are any of the remaining players well-known Internet stars?

Or are we likely headed for another unknown champ?

Philip Yeh placed 5th at the WPT Grand Prix De Paris in 05.

Rep Porter is fairly experienced. He has a few cashes I believe this year, and his most notable finish was 2nd to Jeff King at a WSOP Circuit 10k last year.

Jeff Banghart placed third at the WSOP Circuit Iowa 5k earlier this year.

Ayaz Mahmood is the last name I recognize. He finished I believe 5th at Doyle's tenth winner.

From Pokernews:

"Maria Ho Eliminated in 38th Place ($237,865)

Board: {6-Hearts}{9-Spades}{J-Clubs}{K-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Maria Ho raises to 150,000 in the small blind and Kevin Farry reraises to 225,000 in the big blind. Ho is all in for 575,000 more and Farry calls, showing {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to Ho's {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. The board comes and Ho is out. Farry has 3,700,000."

I think that was Minh Ly.

Edit: Nevermind. He defeated Minh Ly HU, but Mahmood was at the table.

Scott Freeman has done well under the name SCTrojans online, several low 6-figure cashes.

Just about every WSOP champ is an unknown.

Greg was an unknown outside of his local casion and 2+2.

Joe was unknown outside of his local poker scene.

Even the last pro to win it, Carlos, had done little noteworthy in tournaments before he won (he had won one tourny in California I think)

The last bracelet winner, someone who was not unknown, was Jesus.

Echo the above. Almost every winner is barely known at the time they win. Obviously the winner will be an unknwon player, the field is 6300 deep with 300 people who have had significant TV time, another 200 who have big time online play or news reports backing their name, and 5800 randoms. The proverbial deck is stacked in favor of the no-names, but plenty of these people can play, and do so quite well. No one knew Joe Hachem outside of Australia, but he's turned out to be quite a good ambassador for the game, no?

At the time I type this, the only names left are Nyugen and Watkinson of the final 20, Edler just having been eliminated. GL pros.
