According to Gutshot.com:

Whilst Bart Hanson is eliminated when his pair of Eights are busted by his opponent's Aces, Ryan Elson has built himself up to almost $2 million in chips.

Nice run Bart. You had a good series this year.

I didn't see his name in any threads about the WSOP, but I kept seeing a J_V lookalike from what I remember of the pictures of him and almost said something to him during one of the breaks. I want to see him FT and then take his 2k-4k shot against Phil Ivey.

Humberto sucks so bad. He's so terrible. He busted someone I know on day 1, said he was just awful and nitty, he'd raise, fold to a three bet, and stare his opponents down. The fact he plays terrible, plays up to the camera, and slowrolls people makes me very angry. I hope he loses quickly.

Anyways, I'm pulling for Alaei, Brandon Adams, and Scotty Nguyen babaay.

So This Is How It's Gonna Be

Huck Seed is sitting in the 8-seat and Dario Minieri is in the 9. Seed made a preflop raise to 70,000. Minieri, as he's done just about every hand since Day One, re-raised to 220,000.

And then Seed re-raised to 1 million.

Minieri folded, and it should be interesting to see how these two players fare the rest of the day sitting next to each other.

May I See Your ID?

Richard Harris raised to 60,000 from middle position and Dario Minieri called. The flop was {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}. Harris checked and Minieri bet 100,000. Harris asked for Minieri to count out his remaining chips and as he started to, Harris folded.

After the hand, Willie Tann asked Minieri how old he was. "Are you even 21 yet?" he queried.

"No, not yet" Minieri joked.

"What's your name" asked Tann.

"Dario" he replied.

"No, your REAL name.. not the one on that fake ID" he kidded.

Dan did it again on the next orbit, of course.

At 267 miles form the Bike to the Bellagio, it would take me about 90 walking hours.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but you could not do it straight. I don't think you'd want to walk along the freeway, and you need food, water, and sleep. It was at the Legends, so it was also mid-August and hot as hell.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's no way anybody should try this in August. You're simply putting your lfie at risk walking in the 110+ degree desert.

Assuming good weather and taking close to the shortest route possible (including walking on the highway if it's legal), it has to be doable in a week. That's only walking about 13 hours a day. Six days seem very possible with 15 hours of walking per day. 5 days is a major task.

Howard,

I want the action (I will bet $100 on just about anything with long odds), but DO NOT TAKE THE BET. Sorry, I'm not willing to risk jinxing JV here.

Edit: PS, I think that bet gives me a BIG overlay given JV's edge against the remaining field.

Agree. As I recall it, I guessed that six days would be about right. But it had to happen then, so I think he'd be restricted to walking at night. A chase car with food and water would also be permitted. Given the time of year, I probably could have been convinced to bet seven days, but I don't think I would have done eight.

I think it would have taken $50K to get the bet done. That's a heavy prop.

El D, where the heck are you? I'm going on a bike ride in sixteen minutes. Accept by email or PM or phone by then or the action vanishes!

Dario Miniei Eliminated by Reagan Silber

On a flop of {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades} Dario Minieir bet 100,000 and Reagan Silber called. The turn was the {7-Clubs}. Minieri moved all in for 1.1 million and Silber called, turning over {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a set. Minieri showed {Q-Spades}{8-Spades} for a flush draw and would need a spade that didn't pair the board to survive. The river, though, was the {9-Diamonds} and everyone's favorite Porsche-driving online poker superstar was eliminated.

Depends on the pot size. With an overcard and flush draw, he may have figured he was pot-committed if he took any kind of real swing at the pot, so jam to maximize FE. Not saying it was the right move, seems like a crappy spot actually with his image, but this could have been his thought process.

The Cost Per Round
In Dan Harrington's book "Harrington on Hold'em" he introduces readers to the concept of "M," which is just a fancy way of referring to what it costs a player in blinds and antes to play one orbit in a tournament.

At the current blind level, 12,000-24,000 with a 3,000 ante, it costs players 63,000 just to play one round. With the current average stack of 1,428,700, the average chip stack's "M" is 22.67 (meaning, they could fold every hand for 22 2/3 orbits before going broke). According to Harrington, an "M" of 5 is considered a short stack while an "M" of 30 or more is a very comfortable stack to play with

We had an argument yesterday about the percentage of people who are still in and know what M is.

I guess the secret is out now

But the reporter did not mention the "green zone" specifically. Being at 20 instead of 30 should significantly change your game. But don't tell anyone at the ME, they are having way too much fun getting all-in.

Steven Garfinkle raised to 72,000 from the button, Jeff "Mr. Rain" Banghart re-raised to 200,000 from the small blind, Garfinkle moved all in for 605,000 and Mr. Rain was forced to fold. That hand took Garfinkle's stack up to 900,000.

On the next hand, Banghart raised to 75,000 from the button and Kevin Farry called. The flop was {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Farry checked, Banghart bet 250,000, Farry moved all in and Banghart folded.

After these two hands, Banghart's stack was down to 1.85 million.

What the hell could he beat, a flush draw, that min 4bets the flop?

Preflop I agree

Postflop I personally wouldn't play this way but if villian has a weaker ace, say AT, it's hard for him to call. Gus was the aggressor pushing all his chips in. Don't remember who villian was, but maybe a weak-tight player who'll not risk his tournament life here. You guys are being too results oriented saying he cannot beat anything. I'm sure he knew that when moving in, his opponent would not call with KQ.

I want to know how his opponent folding KQ helps to make your point. So his move folds out every single worse hand and only better hands call, and that's a good thing. Apparently I've missed some stuff when learning about poker. We just don't know what's happening in their BvB battles, so it's hard to say. J_V's raise was very large, and Ramirez may have had a read that it was a bluff, or had a read that he would raise ATC there. If he's raising top 50% there but only calling Ramirez's push with top 5%, then it's clearly a good play. I mean it's a tough break for j_v, but I think it's jumping to conclusions to say it was terrible by Ramirez. If j_v says it was a donk play by Ramirez then I'll believe him, but I think he's the only one that knows.

Jeff Tunkel raised to 75,000, Richard Murnick moved all in for 741,000 and Murnick called. Tunkel turned over {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, while Murnick flipped up {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}. No, because then they don't get on teh TV and teh friends from home don't see.

Seriously, I wonder how much the presence of the cameras is a factor in all the huge pots and moves.

"While Humberto Brenes plays at the ESPN featured table, he has a small shark that he infamously uses as his card cap. But he also has a larger shark that he has brought to Day 5 of the WSOP Main Event.

It was introduced to the crowd a short while ago to much applause, but then it was returned to the audience for safekeeping. "

Seems kind of strange to cold call 500k preflop like that (1/3 to 1/4 of his stack)? What could he have had? Ak?

Hevad Khan Eliminates Humberto Brenes

After Brenes raised to 85,000 from middle position Hevad "Rain" Khan re-raised from the big blind to 205K. And as he always does in these situations Brenes got up from his chair and, with a great flourish, announced "All-In!"

And Khan instantly called. Yes, the Shark's {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} had run into pocket Aces. A huge roar rose from the crowd as the flop was dealt and spectators watching at the outer tables rushed over to the ESPN Feature Table to watch the action on the TV screens. The {3-Spades}{5-Spades}{K-Spades} paired Humberto but gave Khan the nut flush draw, and after the {4-Diamonds} hit on the turn Brenes needed a King to stay alive.

The were calls of "King, King" from the crowd as the dealer burned and turned the {10-Spades} to give the pot to Khan and eliminate Humberto Brenes from the Main Event.

Thank God.

Just a thought of seeing that idiot everywhere for an entire year, shouting and screaming in Spanish, makes me want to puke.
