First post here so please be nice.

I have had some trouble lately with shortstacks winning with low pocketpairs against my unimproved AK/AQ kind of hands. This hand I was saved by the river but was I right to take a stab on the turn or should I had slowed down after the villian call from my weak flop bet?

New to the table so I have no numbers on villian but I have seen him show a Q with weak kicker twize before this hand (only hands he have shown). Guess he is kind of loose.

I'd make it 3.5-4 preflop because you're out of position the entire hand.

The flop bet is plain ugly. If you c/bet, then make it around $7.

You could fire again on the turn, or just check, but if you bet, again, make it bigger. $13 to put him AI would be good, let him deside for all his chips if you second barrel.

I agree, you bets are way too small

I agree with nog. Your bets should be at least half the pot on the flop and turn if your going to make them and preferably more like 2/3 or 3/4. Turn would be read dependent.

Yeah as said above your bet sizing is pretty horrible. Bet more everywhere. I normally check against most opponants on the turn but depends on who it is.
