Why is Tom Schneider listed as the winner of the POY on the WSOP site when the main event isn't over yet. According to the scoring system someone could get more points than he. I must be missing something.

thanks

because the Main Event does not count toward POTY points

Since when? I remember norm and chad discussing how some people in the ME could come back to topple the leader board if they went deep.

I am confused to as why the ME is not included, would make a very exiting climax to all the possibilities.

I have no idea why they dont include the ME, or the HORSE. Here's what it says on the website:

The Milwaukee's Best Light Player of the Year Standings are a cumulative measure of performance during the 2007 World Series of Poker. Players will only receive points for open bracelet events.
# There will be ZERO points awarded for the following events: All satellite and "Second Chance Tournaments"
# $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em (Event 2)
# $1,000 World Championship Ladies Event No-Limit Hold'em (Event 17)
# $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. (Event 39)
# $1,000 World Championship Seniors No-Limit Hold'em (Event 41)
# $10,000 World Championship No-Limit Texas Hold'em (Event 55)

Just in 05, they were saying if Hachem won he would crack the top 10. Weird that it doesnt include it anymore.

chances are the winner of the ME would win POTY, so why include it...

The winner of the ME could just get 100 points like the winner of every other event, which is unlikely to make him POTY unless he had already made a couple other final tables.

They started excluded the ME (and HORSE) last year because, in 2006, POTY was just based on money won, in which case the ME winner would obviously win POTY if it wasn't excluded. But this year, they went back to a point system, but for some reason kept the exclusion for the ME and HORSE.

I thought I read that Jeffrey Pollack is trying to set up a "triple crown" for the WSOP. The POY, the HORSE Title, and the Main Event Title.

It would be interesting if they put up a prize for winning the triple crown, since I think it's very unlikely we'll see it in our lifetime.

I can kind of understand excluding the Main Event, though I think it really doesn't matter either way, as long as you don't pay out extra points for it.

However, not including the 50K HORSE is realy a mistake. At the time that event started, I was less than 100 points away from the leader of the POTY. By playing the 50K HORSE, I ended up missing about 7-8 opportunities to play in other events, where it was very possible I could have won some points. Thus, if you really want to be POTY, you really should skip the 50K HORSE entirely. I doubt that is what Harrahs wants.

What are good reasons why the ME should not be included? I can't see a solid reason why HORSE and ME are not included, the others on the list above make sense of course (eployee, womens, senior).

Any event that is open to all should be included IMO...

The whole idea was to make it a triple crown. There would be three winners:
Main Event Winner
Horse Winner
and PoY winner

They didn't want anyone winning more than one.

If they do things right, I think they can get some great advertising / poker promoting done with Tom Schneider, Freddy Deeb, and Jerry Yang.

The Main Event gets too many points to the FT'ers. The winner could easily overcome players that had won an event and done very well in a few others before the Main Event. It's unfair that one tournament can boost your points so much, they don't want the winner every year to just be the guy who won the Main event, or made the Final Table.

Anything that makes the poker pros unhappy makes me happy. Keep the system as is!

So they adjust how the points are given. It's not set in stone..
