sorry if this has already been posted but my friend found this today:

Gambling Law Likely Doomed
Exemptions and infighting will kill online gambling
bill or give it little impact if it survives, an
expert says.

February 20, 2006
Despite the support of 115 members of Congress and an
array of anti-gambling, religious, and conservative
groups, the recently proposed U.S. federal law
outlawing online gambling could go down in flames,
said a gambling industry researcher.

Even if the law passes, it may have little effect on
the current state of online gambling in the United
States, said Christopher Costigan, president of
Gambling911.com, a gambling entertainment and
information web site.

“This law has been kicking around for years,” he said.
“This law makes it more difficult for banks to accept
credit cards for online gambling purposes, but the
Patriot Act has already done that. The online gambling
firms are using overseas banks for these purposes.”

Mr. Costigan doubts the legislation will be passed. He
believes that the supporters of the bill, not its
opponents, will cause the defeat of the proposed
legislation.

And here is some more data on the bill:

Good news, but it's definitely still a good idea to voice your opinion to your local congressman (http://www.house.gov/).

Even though this law will only prohibit Americans from gambling online, I, as a Canadian implore you guys to do what you can to prevent it from being passed. Americans are the biggest fish and it would really kill Party if you guys were gone......88% I believe is the number of fish on Party. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My friend in New Mexico insists that he's really in a 3rd world country.

There have been MANY incidents where somebody from Albuquerque or Las Cruces will be ordering something over the phone and will then be told that it costs more to ship internationally.
Customer-service representative does not believe caller when they insist that New Mexico is actually in the United States.
My friend there says this happens fairly frequently.

So, I think that we in Tennessee are one-up on them for state-hood and recognition.

Back when I worked tech support, we were having a problem with the login page to our site one day. I was explaining to an American caller that he would need to login to the Canadian side of our site and then go from there over to the American catalog. He told me that I would have to walk him through it because he didn't speak Canadian.

People are stupid.

Yes, by way of the UK. We're so odd that way -- by going 50/50 or so we seem weird to both. Though differences with the US are more likely to be emphasized than those with the UK. This may be because as a huge country and direct neighbour, they come up more often with their "colors" and "Dixiecrats" and whatnot (recent complaints of Canadians being taught those words for a spelling competetion).

Has anyone ever heard of "Wyoming"?? Its actually a part of the United States. If a giant underground cave were to suddenly collapse and suck the entire state of Wyoming into the ground, I'm positive nobody would notice for at least a couple weeks.
