Vegas Support For Online Poker / Gaming

In the past we were up against Vegas as a opponent to online gaming.

The tide seems to have turned.

Internet Gambling: MGM Mirage Says It Is Ready For Online Gambling In the US
July 5, 2007

Casino operator MGM Mirage has given its backing to Barney Frank's proposed Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, adding that it would get involved in online gambling as quickly as it could should the US legalise the market. Senior vice president Alan Feldman said that the Las Vegas-based firm would have a site up and running within a year, and predicted that all of the major entertainment companies would get involved in the sector at some level.

Feldman also said that MGM's attempt to operate an internet casino from the Isle of Man had failed because it was competing for only 30 per cent of the market, not enough to be profitable.

"But with the U.S. market under Frank's proposal, it would be profitable," he declared.

MGM/Terry Lanni have ALWAYS been in favor of online gaming.

However, it may be that the rift between MGM (which wanted ALL online gaming legalized) and Harrahs, (which would take poker first) may be bridged IF Harrahs also comes out for Frank's bill.

Harrah's has more pull across the nation as well. Various Indian and local casinos and presences in state lobbying. After the pseudo-religious nuts, they have been our biggest enemies. Honestly, I think their brand sucks, and before Moneymaker they had almost no poker presence anywhere. I wish we had a clearer view of where they want to go on this. I think they have the clout to kill this bill for sure, and MAYBE to pass it through to the Bush desk by fair or foul means.

That is correct.

Lanni and MGM were part of the Lesley Stahl 60 minutes interview (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/11/17/60minutes/main1052420.shtml) last year on Internet Gambling. They came out in strong support of regulation.
