Okay, last minute I know but I've decided to go to vegas and probably play in the ME. Some questions:

Flight: I will cross the border to Detroit by car, and take a domestic flight. I don't have a valid passport (expired), but I'm a Canadian citizen. Any problems getting in to the US or on the flight?

Hotel: Should I book something online or call the hotels? I plan to play like 2/5 and 5/10 NL cash games.

Car: Do I need to rent one? Anyone got good deals for this?

Carrying cash: I want to carry at least 10k, probably 15k with me. What's the best way to go about this?

Thanks

Passport might be a problem. They check passports just about everywhere you can enter the US now whether it be by car or plane or whatever. I visited Montreal and Quebec City a couple weeks ago and had my passport checked pretty closely both in and out of Canada at the more or less deserted New Hampshire station. Windsor/Detroit gets a lot more traffic so they might be even more rigorous.

Yeah, I'm worried. But the US customs site says that just any proof of citizenship is enough (I have a citizenship card). I'm gonna gamble on this.

"By Land and Sea (including ferries) - Canadian citizens generally are not required to have a visa or a passport and may visit the U.S. for up to 6 months. However, Canadians must be able to prove their identity and citizenship to enter the United States. CBP will accept either a birth certificate, citizenship certificate or passport as proof of citizenship. If the Canadian citizen does not have any of these because they were lost or stolen, we emphasize that the burden of proof is on the traveler to prove that they are Canadian citizens. Copies of correspondence requesting a replacement of documents, etc. might be accepted, but it is up to the CBP officer to determine whether or not such paperwork meets that burden of proof. Canadians coming as a Treaty Trader (and family), Fiances/Fiancees (and their children)and spouses and children of legal permanent residents are required to have a visa to enter the U.S."

You can take a taxi to the casino's if you like, it's not that far. I rented a car last month and they made a new car rental terminal like 5 minutes from the airport which I think is a joke.

You get off your flight, go outside to catch a shuttle to the car rental terminal, then stand in line to get your car. When you return it, you drop it off at the terminal, then load up your luggage on the shuttle back to the airport... I think its a waste of time, especially if travelers are there for a few days...

You can just go to Expedia and book everything online... I don't think you need a passport if you have a citizenship card.

Even though your passport is expired, take it with you. I had a border guard tell me it's still a good thing to have.

I'll be there on Friday morning. Playing the ME . I coach Ben and he told me about your place.

Also, I got like 5k in $100 travellers cheques along with about 5k cash. I dunno if I can bring more money in without being harrassed by US customs.

You 100% do not need a passport to travel into the USA if your canadian.

You do however need a birth certificate and a gov issued photo id if you dont have a passport.

$10k is max you can in have in cash without a hassle.

Dont waste your time renting a car if your staying at a strip hotel, just take cabs.

I have carried more than 10K into the US in the past. The "hassle" is the customs agent asking you about it, and perhaps filling out an additional short form. It's really no big deal.
