Read on Pokernews that ZeeJustin was in for $17k, with time still left for rebuys.

Oh, and this from a blog where someone is giving updates on Marc Karam...

[ QUOTE ]
In the very first hand Marc played, he simply pushed all in blind. Shanon Elizabeth immediately said, "I hate players like you!". Marc retorted, "well you're gonna hate me a lot more by the time the rebuy period is over." Shanon continued to give him attitude and Marc said, "well I guess now we all know how you feel, do you think anyone cares how I feel?" To which Shanon gave a loud "no" and the table just rolled their eyes and laughed at "her Majesty, 'Queen Elizabeth'".

Not that it's unexpected, but Pokernews.com's reporting of this event shows some of the most horrid play I've ever seen. I'm not sure what's supposed to be impressive or amusing about being into a $1k event for 17 buy ins. Blind, illiterate Chinese people playing Scrabble in the dark would be more logical than the play in this tournament.

Board: K /images/graemlins/club.gifT /images/graemlins/heart.gif2 /images/graemlins/spade.gifQ /images/graemlins/diamond.gif7 /images/graemlins/club.gif

Picking it up on the turn, the opponent bets 1,000 and Hellmuth calls. On the river, Hellmuth bets 1,600. The opponent studies him. "Are you trying to get me off my hand?"
Hellmuth: "No, I think you have me beat, though. I think you have A-J." The opponent just calls, indeed with A-J and the straight. Hellmuth has 13,000.

That can't be correct, right?

Daniel Negreanu was eliminated in the last level. He had the majority of his chips committed on an 8-7-5 board with pocket nines. His opponent sheepishly turned over K-4. However the 6 fell on the turn completing his gutshot. The river couldn't help Negreanu. He was eliminated a few hands later.

Nope, that's not right. I was one seat to Hellmuth's left on this hand. The flop was KT7, not KT2, and the river paired sevens. Phil said "Hot diggity dog, the board paired" and the rest is correct. It was totally clear to anyone with a brain that he was trying to slow down any potential raise with a hand like top two.

I'm not sure what Phil does if the other guy minraises here.

BElOwAbOVe and Mr. Smokey were at my starting table and were gambooooooling it up. I was two minutes late to the start of this; as I was unpacking, Smokey pushed, got called, and showed KJ. I was UTG the next hand and raised 300 on JJ, he pushed again. Given two pushes in two hands, I instacalled -- and he showed KJ again. I think he went through seven or eight double buys and was doing some degen stuff like pushing blind.

BelowaABoVE was doing a bit of the same thing until he won a couple of pots and got up to $10K, at which point he locked it down pretty tight and our table broke.

Much Ado About Nothing

Under the gun Shaun Deeb moved in for his last 53,500, and Steve Billirakis called. The player in the cutoff raised all-in himself for 90K total and Billirakis called that as well.

Deeb held pocket Eights, Billirakis pocket Fours, and the player in the cutoff {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}. The {2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop gave Billirakis a set and the lead...until the {3-Clubs} fell on the turn to give the other player a wheel. And then, on the river, the {A-Hearts} spiked to put a wheel on the board and a three-way chop of the pot. One that Deeb was very happy to accept, especially as cries of "Luckbox!" were directed his way.

ha ha ha...nice one deeb...

Serge Gagnon Eliminates Carl Olson

All the money went in before the flop and Olson's {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} dominated Gagnon's {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. The {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop gave both players a pair, but the {7-Hearts} on the turn and {4-Hearts} on the river gave Gagnon the runner-runner flush to knock out Olson. Gagnon now has 240K.

And:

Vivek Rajkumar Rivers Alan Sass

Vivek raised to 18K and Sass moved in for his last 77,000. Rajkumar called with {A-Spades}{10-Clubs} and found he was dominated by Alan's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. The {6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} board meant that Sass only had to avoid a ten to double up...and the {10-Spades} hit on the river to end his day. Rajkumar now has 245,000.

Morgan limped from the small blind with {As}{5c} and when Marquis raised to 60K from the big blind holding {Qs}{Js} Morgan set him all-in. Batista knocked out Nordberg, David Williams knocked out Alaei, and Tran's big pot was against Chien Dinh:

The last few orbits Chien Dinh kept re-popping it when Theo Tran would raise, and Tran would lay his hand down. But Dinh went to that particular well once to often, because when he kicked it up to 100K Tran came over the top to put Dinh all-in. He called with {Ad}{8h} against Tran's pocket Kings, and when Dinh couldn't find an Ace his tournament was at an end. Tran now has 820,000.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can understand the Negreanu strategy of playing loose and rebuying a zillion chips to get big stacks at the table in an effort to win them back. It seems to me that works under two conditions: 1) you're much much better than the field and 2) your table doesn't break early.

At my table, we had three guys (including Saul and Billirakis) doing insanely stupid things (pushing blind, pushing after one card, pushing from EP with KJo, etc.) that can't possibly be +EV. I didn't mind, of course, being the beneficiary of their play -- but we broke 90 minutes into the tournament. Looking at the cash list today, I see that Billirakis took $16K+ out. I counted four double buyins for him plus at least two singles; I'm pretty sure he was in for at least $10K.

Billirakis seems wildly aggro. I've only seen him play during the rebuy period, which is no true measure of pretty much anything. But I thought his play was poorly thought out, particularly where it was clear we were breaking early.

psyduck out. /images/graemlins/frown.gif GG!

And Batista will be making targets of Ike for sure now:

Isaac Haxton Does It Again

Earlier today Haxton's pocket Fours cracked Chad Batista's pocket Aces, and he just sucked out on the river to stay alive. After Haxton raised to 45,000, Batista raised to 115K. Haxton moved in and Batista called {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Haxton turned over pocket Sevens and needed to win the race to stay in the tournament.

But the {J-Hearts}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop gave Batista a pair and a straight draw as well, and when the {A-Hearts} fell on the turn Haxton was dead to a Seven. And then, on the river, Haxton spiked the {7-Clubs} and he turned around and pumped his fist in celebration as he once again doubled up through Batista.

Down to 12. 3 more eliminations to FT! Go 2p2!

Sounds fun, but I'm gonna go in the sequestered room, nothing could be quite as depressing as seeing Shawn double up on tv, and then walk out of the room to the payouts.
