View Full Version : Just Announced: Main event day one now extended

*TT*

The ME day one has extended from 3 days to 4. July 9th will now be another main event day, allowing the WSOP to accommodate a total of 11,000 players. Nobody is predicting this will occur, but they are prepared in the event it does.

Perhaps they're also trying to avoid a 'tent' situation.

Your kidding! It was ALREADY a crap shoot, and now they are predicting 1,100 players??

Geez, if I win the River of dreams package on Monday from the Rio (see other thread in this forum), I'm for sure taking the cash now!

As much as I hate for it to happen, I think for next year, the WSOP should be taking 'Cap' on number of players.

They could cap the number for advanced registration, and then have a set number to allow satellites to win their way ine.

Just went down to the registration area to switch from Day 1C to Day 1D now that there are 4 starting days. No one there had any clue, insisted there were only 3, and when I finally convinced them I wasn't making it up, said they couldn't do anything until the computer was changed, which it hadn't been. GG Bellagio Cup III Main Event, by the way.

Do you know for sure if they will spread the field evenly over the 4 days. I may find it better to play Monday (1d) but would hate to get stuck in a WSOP FU

I don't have a clue. Check pokernews.com for mere details, or the WSOP press releases, they may provide may provide more info over time.

Here's a news release. Effel says the change is for the "comfort" of the players. Also says that there will be 2 Day 2s - Tues 7/10 and Weds 7/11.

Hopefully, this will allow them to keep the levels at the posted 120 minutes, and no one is in a tent.

This is quite discomforting for me. I scheduled my time off work so that I would have to extend vacation only if I made it past day 3. Now I may have to do it if I get past day 1.

Old Schedule

Day 1: 7/6, 7/7, 7/8
Day off: 7/9
Day 2: 7/10
Day 3: 7/11

New Schedule
Day 1: 7/6, 7/7, 7/8, 7/9
Day 2: 7/10, 7/11
Day 3: 7/12

Is the day off on 7/16 (day before final table) also being eliminated so the final table is on the same day?

Its a different kind of crapshoot than a speed tournament, but there is still a ton of luck involved.

So how are they going to even it out? Are they going to move anyone already registered to day 1D or is everyone that registers from today forward going to be given 1D in hopes that it will even out? I wonder how even the days will be.

It's not like there is 8000 already signed up. I bet they don't have 3000 signed up yet. There will be a big rush next week, culminating on Friday morning.

And keep it 9 players to a table.

I can think of two reasons they did this, which already have been mentioned...

1. Keep the main event tent free (if there is less then 1800 a day; 200 tables at 9 to a table)
2. Screw with the Bellagio.

Any others...?

I registered for the main event last nite and was told Friday was "sold out". Obviously, once the other days even out people will be able to register for Friday.

I was talking to a floor guy during the 1500 event and he said there were already 1000 or so signed up. That seemed really low but I guess everyone is either waiting to sign up or haven't got to Vegas yet.

I'm pretty sure the main reason fewer people have registered is that online sites can't register people any more. Now, the easiest and most common way to sign up is to bring 10k to the window. The question is, how many satellite winners will actually show up and how many will just take the cash.

This is further evidence that they didn't extend it to 4 days to accomodate 11,000 entries. Last year they must have had 4 or 5 thousand by now with all the online satellite entries.

Who is "they?" A random floorperson, or a person back in the cage? There's no real reason that 12,000 people are going to come out of the woodwork to buyin.

I had a floorperson tell me two nights ago that they already had 5k+ registered for the main event, but when I asked them to look up the exact number it was (as has been reported in this thread) 800-something.

No way they get to 8K. I predicted that they'd drop down to 2005's field size and I still stand by that prediction. Does anybody think that 4000+ will register for the WSOP within the week (I am assuming that you can still register on one of the later Day 1's)?

I was just there this morning, and was told by the registration desk that people are signing up now for the ME left and right.

They story they (the people registering the players) are hearing the most, is that ppl that won their seats online, are taking the cash and bringing it the WSOP (mostly very young kids are the ones doing this), playing in the daily $550 events, and getting in that way.

Some are even plunking down the case, period!

I guess when your young, don't have a family to support, are still living at home with Mom and Dad, it's okay to plunk down the whole 10k you won online to play in the WSOP ME.
