I'll be arriving in Vegas late July 5...around 10pm. Day 1A is July 6 so I'm wondering how hard it will be for me to get to the Rio with the 10k. Will there be a long line etc.? Procedure is I just bring 10k in cash to the Rio before noon July 6 and I'm good to go?

Also, do I have to notify the government or anything if I'm carrying $30k on an airplane/domestic flight?

I should definitely rent a car right?

Unless you are traveling from abroad/oversees.......you DO NOT have to declare any monies you are carrying on a domestic flight within the US!

there are lots of threads on this already.

you'll need 10k cash, a players card from harrah's, and a picture id. by now, the cage is better at getting people signed up, the long lines are no more.

30k on airplane is fine. don't tell gov't anything.

Are you staying at Rio? Plan on hopping between casnios a lot? I side on not renting a car and just taking cabs as its normally quicker and less hassle.

Should I stay at the Rio? I was thinking the Flamingo cause it's cheaper and on the strip.

If you are going to stay at the RIO,I would make reservations ASAP,as the res. desk told me this morning when I finalized my trip plans, that the WSOP rooms are going fast(unless you play the pits obviously a diff. story then)!

There is a monorail line along the strip. The Rio is somewhat off the strip, but Harrahs has a shuttle from their other casinos to the Rio. The monorail runa every 9 minutes and the shuttle every 30 minutes. There are also cabs. So you don't have to rent a car. There are hassles to using a car and hassles to not using a car.

Its a quick car ride over to the Rio from there, also a free shuttle from Harrah's to Rio if you want to save cash

If you plan on playing all of your time at Rio, I would say, stay at the Rio, but if you plan on going to Bellagio, Caesars, Wynn, MGM, Venetion, etc.. for side games, then I would say Flamingo would be the choice, moreso for quick access to Bellagio and Caesars

Rent a car. You can get one from 12 to 15 bucks a day. The new central airport rental center is fast and painless. One cab ride to or from the Rio to anywhere else will cost that much. If you value your time, you will get sick of the free shuttles in short order. Sweltering outside for 15 minutes at a time waiting for them is no fun either. After a couple days of driving around, you will find the quickest and easiest ways in and out of everywhere. A few examples:

IP or Harrah's - Back way in from Koval to Harrah's parking garage. Just inside there is a short walkway to the IP, and also the monorail, which gets you to the MGM cheaply.

Venetian - Back way in from Koval, self-park. Make nice nice with a floor and try to get a VIP poker parking pass. It's like the Secret Handshake in school. It lets you park in reserved spots on the 5th floor or use the valet in front (no signs, it's a "secret"). Only use the valet if you're late and need to run to the poker room, because retrieving your car takes a long time.

MGM - Monster parking lot with long walks, valet fills up quick. Monorail or cab here unless you're in no hurry.

Caesars - Same problems as MGM, only worse. No monorail. Cab or free shuttle it here unless you really like walking.

Wynn - Back way in from Sands via Koval or front way in from the Strip. Magnificent self-parking garage with casino entrance right next to poker room.

Stay at the Rio if you have a realistic chance of lasting awhile. The convenience of walking to and from the room to the WSOP can't be underestimated. The entrant rate is about as cheap as any other decent place.

For whatever reason, the shuttle runs from all Harrah's properties except the Flamingo ... so don't stay there if you are expecting to take the shuttle.
