SB checks, Hero bets $17.90, SB calls all-in for $17.90

Pot Size: $56.05 ($2.75 Rake)

I would have folded to a 3-bet on the flop, but the fact that he called made me think he didn't have a set or two pair and that I was probably good.

Villain is 15/14/3

I'm confused what he donk bets and flat calls on the flop with?

I'd probably check behind on the turn, and evaluate what he does on the river.

Can't see villain leading flop without AJ or a set, as played check turn behind for pot control and try to evaluate river.
Is evaluate even the right word for it ?

i think that's false, but donk bets confuse the hell out of me. I think most of the times they are weak (i.e. he has a jq/jt kinda hand). Sometimes they're strong. I just hate them.

what the hell

i can't figured out what he's leading the flop with (with two to act), unless he's like me and leads with his sets a lot against PFRs when an ace flops.

i honestly can't put him on a hand and our hand is face up, so not sure if we should bet turn (we beat AQ) even though pot is such that he's probably going all in on river.

donk bets, imo, usually live up to their name. they see they connected with the flop and so naturally want to bet. In my experience, it doesn't indicate great strength, unless they have something like a set on a really drawy board, but obviously this isn't a drawy board.

He had less than a PSB left after the flop, so I can't imagine that I'm going to fold getting 2:1 here. The flatcall on the flop made me think I had some FE, too. I figured it was best to do it now rather than letting him peel off a card on the river (or letting something scary come off like a king).

I can agree with that. That's what I meant by him flat calling your raise. It looks fishy to say the least. Now that I think about it, most donk bets that are like <1/4th of the pot are very weak. Ones that are closed to pot size are strong. I'm going to act on this today in my sessions and see how it works.

definitely check behind the turn. the turn bet is atrocious since the only hand that calls (and it that only sometimes) is AQ and you don't fold out any hands behind you. I'm guessing villain showed up with 2pair huh - AJ or AT?

AQ actually, hehe

It's when things like this actually work out well that make me really question it. I felt like I made a good read on the flop but then I always wonder whether it was a good read or a bad play that got lucky.

Also, I've found donk-bets are low-mid unimproved pocket pairs about 60% of the time just trying to find out where they are. It's actually not a bad play if you have something like JJ oop and someone re-raises you pre-flop. If the board comes up with a bunch of rags, it saves money to donk bet into the PFR and see if they re-raise you. A lot cheaper than letting them c-bet you, raise them, and then fold to their 3-bet.
