sorry again if these hands are simple, I'm just trying to get a general grasp right now...and I feel like I played them both badly

first few hands at the table, no reads.

hand 1: prf, flop and turn are good to me but river to me looks like a value bet of qj, or at least a king

hand2: I would've raised flop, folded to decent bet on turn or flop reraise.

I think calling the river in hand 1 is good - the hero's check on the turn was correct but signals weakness to villian, who I believe could be betting anything here.

I used to call down in hand 2 but I think raising the flop gives you a lot more information than just calling down.

I think you played hand 1 just fine. You're probably beat on the river, and that's just too good of a price to avoid looking him up. Plus you'll gain some information.

Hand 2 flop raise is best, but looks like he has an overpair when he refuses to shut down. Again though you're getting a good price on the river, I'd probably look him up here too.
