This is my first OP on 2+2. Villain is a 52/9/0.7 donk. I usually avoid minraising but this time I didn't.

SB: $31.71
BB: $25.36
UTG: $12.81
CO: $19.22
Hero (BTN): $32.03

Preflop: Hero is dealt 9/images/graemlins/club.gif T/images/graemlins/club.gif (5 Players)
UTG calls $0.25, CO raises to $0.95, Hero calls $0.95, 3 folds

Flop: ($2.50) 6/images/graemlins/heart.gif 5/images/graemlins/club.gif A/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 Players)
CO bets $0.75, Hero raises to $1.50, CO calls $0.75

Turn: ($5.50) Q/images/graemlins/club.gif (2 Players)
CO checks, Hero bets $3.50, CO calls $3.50

River: ($12.50) 2/images/graemlins/diamond.gif (2 Players)
CO bets $4.00, Hero raises to $14.00, CO calls all-in for $9.27
Uncalled bet of $0.73 returned to Hero

Pot Size: $39.04 ($1.56 Rake)

People on 25nl don't often recognize minraising as semi-bluffing, and it was the cheapest way to cover my FD. It would be different if villain had skills.
I'd like to know what you guys think.

I hate min-raisers but I like your logic behind the play and it worked out very well. Nh

I do it if I think I can get a free card. A lot of villains will do just that and give it to you. It beats calling a larger turn bet and then missing on the river.

This worked out well here and villains uber donkish stats say to me that this is the perfect play. If villain seemed more competent then I would raise this bigger because that .75 bet looks really weak. With these 52/9/.07 guys though it could be AA.

I like making this small raise sometimes, but in a HU pot I'm going to throw out a real raise that actually has FE.

Villain is 52/9/.7. How much fold equity do you think you have here? He probably only cbet because he hit an ace. This raise does'nt need fold equity because against this type of villain minraising or shoving usually does'nt change your fold equity much. I think the main purpose here is to buy that free card, assuming that villain would have fired the turn for more than 75 cents if we missed. Just makes drawing out on him cheaper.

I think you're right. I overlooked the passiveness. But he did throw out a pretty weak bet...

This is sometimes how these guys play their monsters though.

I admit it was a weak raise, but I think players like this wont recognize this as a weak semi-bluf. I like bowloys posts, except that I didn't really do it for the free card but more for covering up my draw.

I think a good player with the A will reraise me here though.
And as bowlboy said, with alot of uNL players minraising means they have a monster, even though I didn't want to reflect a monster here /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Were you going to fire turn if you missed?

If I missed the turn I think double barreling as well as checking could be justified. Double barreling because of the weak small bet + call, checking because my aggressive image plus him being abit of a station will probably make him call down a weak ace. I'd go for the check /images/graemlins/wink.gif

[/ QUOTE ]I only asked because he said he wasn't using the minraise as a free card play which it clearly is. I realize it reps your hand as something else, but it really is just more of a free card play than anything else.
