View Full Version : NL50 Is a check-raise semi-bluff a reasonable option here?

NL50.

Villain is about 16/14/unknown over about 100 hands. My image has been pretty aggressive up to this point.

Is anyone ever considering check-raising as a semi-bluff here?

I could be way off base here, but with NFD+overs there is no way I am ever folding in a 4-seat reraised blind vs blind pot. If he has a strong hand we are going all in regardless. I would c/r to extract a c-bet from a weaker holding, and call a shove. C/C is dire and b/3bAI lets him play perfectly.

Rather id lead - and pushes all in if he reraises.

Aren't you close to favourite against queens here? Isn't that not a semibluff then? Crai looks good here, what do y ou think?

It's true that we are a 52/48 favourite against QQ,JJ. However this edge is so slim that with $17 already in the pot, they have odds to call even if we shove, so we would rather they fold (by folding they make a FToP mistake which benefits us). Even if he has 88 we still want to get rid of him. Therefore I think it's good to CRAI to induce a c-bet from weak hands then take it down.

I think leading out may be better if he is capable of shoving over a donkbet with something like AQ, which would be pretty ballsy. If that's possible then it's excellent for us.

One problem with the CR is that we want to jam flop and if he checks behind on the flop, it could make things difficult for us on the turn. However I would be amazed to see him check back this flop.

B/3b is better, it's easier to get it all-in on the flop (draws have more equity here than turn) and you may even have some fold equity.

let's look at it with pokerstove.

if you give villain a range of 88+,ATs+,KQs,AQo+ (6,5% of hands .. which may be a bit to tight since you have an aggressive image and he could make a play with a much wider range) you are a 63% favorite. looks like you want to get your money in.

this is a BLIND battle ... sometimes I pf 4 bet it. As played CRAI

(I dont mind a bet/3b on flop)

wow it would be an awesome flop to take the line, donk/rrai. That makes me so mad and I am sure it would insta life tilt your opponent. + your hand is fine to do this with as you probably have 15 outs.
