View Full Version : $25NL - One of those arbitrary, tiny pots in my SB gets crazy.

Ugh. This one was really annoying.
Villain is 49/5/.63 over 75 hands. This much action from passives sends off flags in my head.

Looking back on the hand, I don't really know what I was thinking. Call turn and take a river seems safer. River was just flat out ugly, because any Q9/QT/QJ kills me now and I'm pretty much calling hoping for a split or to pick off some random bluff, and the bluff is probably rare given his stats. I played the turn so strong that I guess I thought he had to have a monster to shove.

Thoughts on all streets?

I'd fold PF from SB, call in BB. Pot turn as played, re-raise of course, then shove into this river.

Honestly, I'd pitch this preflop. Villain is raising 5% of his hands, and this was UTG...not a good time to call OOP with KJo.

On the river you're flipping vs his range so a shove is fine, imo.

But yeah, this is a trouble spot preflop.

A hand like this looks enticing to play pf but it's honestly just one that will get you in lots of trouble. It's a hand you will find is dominated most of the time.

Well played hand imo, I call a ton of these hands against nit ish PF raisers (especially since its a min raise) with alot of random holdings in the blinds. Great turn card and AWFUL river.

My thinking is the exact opposite of yours. I'm getting crushed by his tight range pre flop. I'm not good enough to play these hands from the blinds when I get a piece of the flop

I'm a nit, but I agree with folding preflop.
Easily dominated hand OOP, not my cup of tea.

You play to hit a monster which is exacly what happened, too bad the river was awful.

I fold preflop but it really looks like he has AQ here, I think I call the river, I don't think he's raising q9, qt, qj preflop.

+1 fold pre.

I don't think he's shoving AQ here - I think he has AK, KQ or a boat. His turn action looks like either a weak bluff with AK, or he is trying to suck you in then realised he could be behind - it's clear you would get it all in there if he wants. However he is definitely not scared on the river.

Curse him for only min raising the turn, if he had made a decent raise we could have shoved.

River is kinda tricky I quite liked whoever suggested open shoving it, as we get 2:1 on the shove and as someone pointed out we are flipping against his range. However I think we are pretty much always losing or splitting if we get called, which seems less than optimal.

[/ QUOTE ]I really don't see why the river is so awful. He likely doesn't have AK/JJ/QJ/Q9/QT. I really don't think he plays KK/AA like this either. He could easily have QK/99/QQ though. At best you're hoping for a chop and I'm really not sure if this is a call or not, I think it's very very close.

I can't see this villain minraising ak on the turn, he's too passive but I can definitely see him checking behind with trips on the flop then minraising then just calling the raise in case he's behind, then shoving river when you don't bet.

KQ is possible too but I don't know if he'd raise that.
