Getting money to the WSOP: wire or certified check

Are both methods working? Has anyone had trouble wiring money to the Rio or getting a certified check cashed? Is the Rio the best place to wire money? What method works best?

Since I posted this, I called the Rio and they are recommending using a cashiers check, saying they are overwhelmed with wire transfers and the wires could take over a week.

I thought about it and the Rio may really be overloaded with wires. There are so many people who were getting signed up for the online sites for the ME last year who need to get the buyin there themselves now.

If anyone is already in LV and looking either a) to get funds quick, or b) to withdraw from Stars/FTP instantly rather than wait a couple weeks for a check, I've helped a couple people in this regard: they've transferred me $ on FTP or Stars and I've just handed over cash in person (just like the online swaps I've done, though, I ask for 4% of the amount transferred). I don't have unlimited funds, though, so preference will go to 2p2'ers with > 1,000 posts. And I'm preferably only interested in swaps for > $1,000 (sorry, low-limit grinders, but lower amounts prob wouldn't be worth my time...)

p.s. i wired $ to the Rio last week and had no problems. Wired it on Friday afternoon, and picked it up Tuesday at noon. I was stuck at the cage filling out paperwork for nearly 45 mins to pick it up which was a PITA, but otherwise no complaints.

i plan on bringing ~$20k, flying from CT into vegas, would carrying it in cash be a bad idea? should i hide it somewhere? just put it in my carry-on bag?

I wired for event #27 (June 16th) on May 25th. I faxed over confirmation and signed application but never got anything back. I placed 2 phone calls to the main number (website kept failing), and had no answers to my voice mail messages.

Fortunately I was smart enough to get there day before. Spent over 1 1/2 hours as they had my wire as "Pending", but they eventually put me through.

I think cash is better. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
