Interesting tidbit I would like to share...

I recently met a woman who works for the development company behind the new Mt. Airy Lodge in the Poconos, one of the five places recently granted a license to operate slots in Pennsylvania. She assured me that poker is coming "within a couple of years," that people are "working very hard" (read: bribing) to make this happen, and it's pretty much a "done deal."

From what I understand the local community is all for the new resort, so there shouldn't be much NIMBY opposition. This of course would be damn good news for PA players and also for NYC players, as the Poconos are only 1.5-2 hours away and a hell of a lot nicer than AC. That is, you can actually do stuff there other than gamble and you can attract more diverse markets, such as families and retirees.

Anyways, this got me excited, but of course I'm not convinced. Sounds like BS developer hype... or is there a real chance of this actually happening?

York should have a casino. It'd be the only one in south central PA and it would easily draw tons of business from Baltimore.

plus, I live in york, so that would be cool.

I grew up close to Mt. Airy. We used to suds the entryway fountain wih detergent and enjoy the suds for days afterword. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mr. Denaples is the owner and of course is insanely corrupt. I was just up there and the exterior is almost finished. They will use the excuse that they are not making enough revenue from slots and need gaming tables, which of course everyone knows is wrong. Still, I do hope they get a poker room and that it has a real structure, not like the bs poker played in Florida.

If anyone can make it happen it Denaples and his good buddy and fellow crook - Governor Rendel.

As much as I hope poker comes to Pennsylvania, PA is traditionally very conservative on the State level so it may take some time. That being said, I heard they also broke ground to put a new fullblown casino next to the existing "new" slot parlor at the Philadelphia Race Track in Bensalem. Also heard the slot parlor has already purchased and is storing the gaming tables somewhere.

So, IF the totally second-hand information I've heard is true, would seem like good news. Timetable: 1-2 years
