This villain is nearly a complete calling station, but not quite. He will bet when he has something. Am I losing money not raising in this spot?

i would just pay it off. not raising, but not folding either since the odds are so good.

One question here is how lightly Villain is going to pay off a raise. Another is how loosely he's calling preflop. If he's a very loose defender preflop, then I think the case for a raise is damaged, because 45 flush combos and 16 straight combos are possible. But if he's at least somewhat selective preflop, then the flush/straight combos go down, and we can figure there's a good chance what he has is a decent queen. (Or possibly he has something even worse, but that only matters, with regard to your river decision, if it's a worse hand he'll pay off with.)

At the table, I might just call, but I suspect raising is at least a little better (if Villain's calling station tendencies extend to the river, that is, and if he isn't super-loose preflop). The reason I might just call though is that I don't like folding a hand as good as trips much, and if you do raise, I think you should fold to a big 3-bet from this Villain.

I think you have to raise this. Getting 3-bet would not be fun, but if he's a calling station he's probably not doing that too often anyway.

His stats were 88/11/1. Sorry for not including this in the original post.

It turned out like this.

Hero calls $2.00

Pot Size: $10.25 ($0.45 Rake)

BB had A/images/graemlins/heart.gif 5/images/graemlins/club.gif (a pair of Eights) and LOST (-$5.00)
Hero had 8/images/graemlins/diamond.gif A/images/graemlins/spade.gif (three of a kind, Eights) and WON (+$4.80)

I call the river bet.

I do not raise. I don't think a worse hand will call your raise, but I do think villain might be betting a hand that you could beat, given how the hand played out.

easy raise guys a donkey. respons to a 3b? call probably depends on tendencies of the donkey. Might be able to find a fold if he's passive. You have to raise this river though
