Suppose you have a dilemma. What do you do about it?

Is something funny?

Perhaps I should have said,
If you have to choose, choose the more moral option.

Which was what I meant.

What kind of lame-ass faux-dilemma do you have in mind, here?

If there's any choice where both options are undesirable why is suggesting making the more moral choice a bad one?

Because you are just saying "Pick the best option."

[/ QUOTE ]No, I'm serious. Your point is laughable. It is completely redundant and doesn't solve anything.

You're right.. 'Flip' was much more helpful than telling people to trust common sense and morality.

suffer it, learn to live with it, then try to avoid it in the future.

Great question. First, Getty has been heavily involved in his solo album, and hasn't returned my calls. Nonetheless I am in touch with his people...well, with Consuela, the maid who cleans his house mornings; she is making our collective presence as obtrusive as possible...he's getting a Post-It on the fridge, I do know that...

Serious answer: I have no idea. I don't have dilemmas. I can count on one hand the decisions in my life that it has taken me more than 2 seconds to make, and in each of those cases I was really just stalling because the decision sucked. You know the baseball cliche, tie goes to the runner? Well, thats not actually a rule, and for good reason, since there is no such thing as a tie. Some decisions are relly, really close, but none of them are ties.

thank you for pointing this out. it is really amazing how many people use that argument without ever considering this really basic resolution.

Blame it on someone else. Then go on a violent rampage, get caught, you are a victim, have a circus trial, get acquitted, write a book, make a movie, get rich, retire on French Rivera.

Next question (or, repeat as above as often as necessary).

In the same way that you could artificially construct poker situations where calling, folding and raising all have exactly the same EV, I'm sure you could artificially construct a dilemma where each option has equal but nonidentical value. Continuing with the poker analogy, you'd make your decision on which has less 'variance'.
