I know my river bet was really weak but I felt he got his draw on the river. Thoughts on the hand and the fold on the river please.

So you're putting him on EXACTLY 89? Poker isn't about putting people on exact hands, its about assigning ranges. Putting someone on a specific hand like that is weak/tight thinking and instead you need to be able to look at your equity vs the hands he might have here and decide what is the best play.

The fold is fine; no way are you ahead here. It actually looks more like he flopped the straight and was trying to slowplay it.
