Villains stats are 37/33/4 over 115 hands. we have had a few battles prior to this one. I floated him on three occasions. he c/raised our previous heads up flop.

I don't see a big problem here. Popping the flop is an option, I think, but your approach in this hand seems valid too.

Mainly, I think that playing with this guy at the table is going to be a wild ride.

I once posted A similar question, I had QQ Reraised a bit less than pot size (like 2.8x villains raise). Gave him the correct implied odds to set mine me. It was also draw heavy board.

So yeah you should've raised more preflop.
I also agree with NickC, you should've popped the flop to see better if you're beat or not , and reduce his odds in case he's betting a draw.

If he still calls and sucks out and you loose a big pot, you did all you could to protect your hand. In the long run you'll make a profit.
