If you know someone in the counties involved give them a call and tell them to vote. I heard that it may be close in Jefferson county (closest county to DC). I plan on voting early and often. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The Vote NO people have been sending out alot of emails and flyers. The Vote YES people came by my house 2 times yesterday and 4 times total. (YES is for the table games)

Considering I live an hour away from Charles Town (Hagerstown MD) I'm crossing my fingers for this.

We are hoping here in WV, actually a similar vote PASSED in Lewis County, WV several years ago after the Greenbier vote was defeated and yes, there is a qualifing building in Lewis County.

The agrument over the vote legality went all the way to WV Supreme Court and was ruled valid.

This August 29 the state is auctioning off the West Virginia Insane Asylum. Perhaps if the votes fail in the other counties it will be Lewis that ends up with the casino.

BTW, the yea vote in LC was 62+% in favor and had the support of SEVERAL churches. Jobs were / are more important than sin, lol.

I am in DC so a yes vote would be huge. When will the results be announced? I take it there are no exit polls....

"Meanwhile, a measure to authorize table games at Charles Town Races & Slots was trailing in Jefferson County 1,228 to 1,033 with votes in eight of the county's 30 precincts counted, county officials there said."

It's still early though. Only 8 precints are reporting. I will get nervous if that number hits 20 and we are still behind.

With 25 of 30 precincts reporting, Jefferson County voters were rejecting the table games option for Charles Town Races & Slots 58 percent to 42 percent. A defeat would mean Pennsylvania-based Penn National Gaming Inc. must wait two years before putting the issue before voters again.

I hear that Pennsylvania is going to push table games as well. Sucks to be in DC/Maryland right now, but hopefully PA will pull through.

It would have been nice to have to drive only an hour to play some cards. I love AC, but can't do that trip often unfortunatley.

Wheeling is the biggest if I'm not mistaken, it's no surprise it passed and I think the Charles Town one was a coinflip. Wheeling will probably be pretty large.

The economy in Jefferson where Charles Town is located is much better than Ohio County.

I don't know if Wheeling is the largest, and in fact I kind of doubt it. I've never been to Mountaineer, but my mother tells me it is more "destination" like than Wheeling Island.

Regardless, Wheeling Island's plans are to have 62 tables, 20 of which are going to be devoted to Poker. Poker to be available by Labor Day, craps and other games by October.

If and when Mountaineer gets there table games, they have plans on trying to run large scale poker tournaments from what I have read in the past few months on the issue.

WTF? I didnt realize Wheeling was that far away. I live in Leesburg, so I guess there aren't any convenient options for me are there? Looks like I'll have to keep trekking it to AC.

Charles Town Casino makes more money than the others in the state currently, and was projected to bring in the most money for table games. It is closer to DC and Maryland. They had planned a 500 room hotel and another larger casino. I guess those plans are shelved. For those living in DC, Northern Virginia or myself in Charles Town, its still closer to drive to AC than the other casinos in West Virginia. With the current law it could come up for another vote in 2 years. If the state legislator changes the law (in some fashion) then it could be voted on again sooner, but that doesn't look likely.

Arghhh!! Like others have said, looks like AC is still the closest option.
