Ok, so a certain someone says that call is "absolutely terrible," however, I don't think it is at all. I called preflop hoping to flop a set vs. a big hand from Gobbo and ended up getting a decent flop but still didnt want to play it too fast. He is betting the turn with an overpair so this is likely AK or total air. He is betting the river approximately 999/1000 times here and am only behind AK (KQ?), am I missing something here?

I like it he knows unless you had KhXh you are folding river a lot he can rep that wtih many hands.

wtf

flop call is marginal. because you made it, you need to call river super begrudgingly.

in a vacuum, there's no way you should see showdown if you were a random, but the fact that it's you two makes it a bit closer and enough to call IMO

umm wtf I see this call as necessary and you can't fold here. he's pure air here a ton, you easily have odds to call

Justin,

I think the flop and river calls are incredibly marginal and the river one is quite bad. If you call preflop and hope to win a big pot off of a big hand by me, why are you calling the river if you put me on complete air? When I play with you, you always make super super thin plays against me and if anything I'm going to be thin valuebetting, not bluffing like a maniac. This hand only makes that more true.

Edit: LOL @ pure air a ton. Do you have any idea what my utg raising range is at a full UB table? I am checking an overpair to justin here about 100% of the time.

I just dont think there are many hands in Gobbos pf range that are behind 55 here.

as gobboboy eluded to, how do you call for a set against his big hand, but decide he's on air at the river ? does the turn check change your mind that quickly?

methinks gobbo is def checking JJ/TT to a tightwad like rollo and then valuetowning it on river

preflop standard, flop marginal, river whatcha beat? you're bluff catching a hand that can't really be a bluff.

Yet, nobody talked about the turn. I would bet this turn quite often to get some information about gobbo's hand and you can get a cheap showdown.

You either don't listen to yourself or this isn't correct.

Pretty obvious gobbo was trying to induce a bluf on the turn. River call is super marginal, he is just hitting you for value.

The only hands you are ahead by the turn (justin) are AK, AQ, if you call flop, I think you have to bet the turn to take the pot there. I can't see too many hands in his range that are c/raising the turn there which you are ahead of, except suited ace combos, and you are only marginally ahead of those, so just bet. If called, you can be certain that you are done with the hand, i.e. not calling a river value bet.

Seems real bad.

There are just SO many hands he can be valuebetting with, and very few he can be bluffing with. I absolutely don't care what the results are, if he was bluffing you were running hot in which hand in his range he had here.
