Just go ahead and lead the flop for near pot.

id probably led this flop...as played yea id raise it a good bit more probably like 1-1.2 on flop given the board is somewhat drawy then probably get BTN AI on turn

lead flop, as played, raise $1 (pot), and get it AI on the turn

Lead Out for the full pot here. Theres a flush draw on board and your giving him the option of seeing a free card and keeping the pot small. With a set im looking to build a big pot here and if they fold to my flop bet then so be it.

As played id probably raise a little more again because of the FD, maybe to $1.20 giving him just over 2/1 on the call rather than the 3 1/3 odds you gave him as with your raise hes more likely to think he has implied odds if he has the FD.

Turn and River is ok because of the size of his stack left, if hed a bigger stack id be betting more on each street coniderng he already called the raise but hed only $2.50 left on the turn so thats fine as is pushing the turn.

I didn't wanna donk bet the flop because it might kill any action I would get. I now realise i should have raised more on the flop and put him AI on turn. I still have trouble making pot sized bets when raising.

You should be betting more on the earlier streets. Preflop is good, flop bet should be raised to $1-1.25, this helps build the pot for a turn shove. This is a drawy board, so a lot of people will lead this flop instead of going for a c/r. I think a c/r is a better way of developing a read on an opponent, so I am prone to taking this line more often, even on drawy boards so long as I have a read and believe one of my opponents will bet in position.

OP kinda rule of thumb you wanta make larger raises when boards are drawy to "charge" villians to chase, when boards are not so drawy dont have to raise as big...but IMO its better to raise too much than not enough

Here's a good formula to use on Stars. Say the pot is .80 and an opponent bets .60. On the top of the window, it will show the pot as being 1.40. Making a pot bet is about offering your opponent 2:1 odds, so here's the formula:

Size of Pot + Villain's betx2 = Size of my raise

1.40 + (.60 x 2) = Raise it to 2.60
Pot is now $4, villain has $2 to call.

In the OP hand, the same equation is:

85 in pot + (.20 x 2) = Raise it to $1.25
Pot is now $2.10, villain has $1.05 to call.

Thanks for the advice guys, will keep everything in mind next time around. Villain chased his flush and made it on the river.
