I never really thought much about this hand, but it's from the Winter Open (or whatever they call it), the 10k event at the Borgata.

I have about 80k chips to start the hand, opponent has maybe 60k. Blinds are 1000/2000 with I think a 300 chip ante. Opponent in the hand has been talking about knowing a ton of players and been name dropping like crazy, but he hasn't really played a lot of hands. He has been relatively tight. I came to the table with about 45k chips and doubled up with QQ versus AA and then have bled away some chips. I have been raising moderately often preflop, but missing flops and playing pretty tight postflop.

He raises UTG+1 to 6000, folded to me in the BB, I call with AcJc.

Flop comes AK3, rainbow. I check, he bets 10k, I call. Turn brings 6 second of some suit (not clubs). I think for maybe 30 seconds and bet 18k. He thinks for a while (maybe 3-5 minutes) then finally pushes all in for maybe 24k more. Call/fold?

Comments on all streets appreciated.

This hand is from memory, so all details might not be correct.

You should be thinking about how to react to a shove before you make the bet. You are getting ridiculous odds at this point, and I'm guessing that if it is a fold, you should just fold preflop.

what were you hoping to accomplish with your turn bet?

generally speaking that turn bet sucks and is just a substitute for check-folding which is exactly what you should be doing. that's especially true against a guy who has been playing tight and straight forward.

I just fold PF if he's been so tight he's not stealing from UTG+1

Preflop's probably a fold. Don't really hate the call with those big antes, but I doubt the direct odds make up for pretty strong reverse implied odds in this spot.

Flop fine.

C/f turn. That bet is absolutely awful since you're basically putting in half of his remaining stack in a spot where he's folding all worse hands and shoving all better hands.

I should mention that I had no idea how this player played postflop, I just know he seemed moderately tight preflop.

For further clarification, I bet this turn with the idea that if he pushed all in relatively quickly, I'd fold, if he thought and did anything besides fold, I'd look to get my chips in.

I definitely may have been getting too fancy here, no doubt.

His stack size is the reason why this bet is so bad, right? I mean you basically pot committed yourself and now he's told you you are dead. C/f turn is the right play.
