I made a small bet on the end thinking he might call a small bet with a pair, but would raise with a flush. His raise wasn't huge so maybe I should have called. Then again, he probably would have bet with any pair on the flop. I'm new at this, be gentle.

I would call the river. he does not have a flush every time in this situation. Could be AX or maybe QX, 2 pair, MAYBE a set, and possibly a flush. You still have a strong hand here.

I could see him doing this with two-pair and Ax. 3-to-1 pot odds, you should call.
