View Full Version : Does site size matter to US players? If so, how and how much ?

US players should look critically at the present and future of online poker, barring a hail mary legislative outcome:

Benefits of size: game selection, bigger tournaments, bigger promotion prizing.

a. game selection .... are you really looking for soft games or simply convenience in multi-tabling ? (Smaller sites have some incredibly soft games, albeit only one or two table at a time. If you want to multi-table, you need to be on more than one such site concurrently. It is work, but it can be done.)

b. bigger tournaments .... this one is a given big plus for size, whehter you define it in terms of overall prize pools or availability of large fields and low cost of entry.

c. Size alsi inarguably supports bigger marketing giveaway pools, whether as freerolls or simply prizing, such as drawings or Pro for a Year type rewards

Drawbacks of size: money flow difficulties for deposits and especially cashouts(PS is an exception).

Money flow: Surprisingly, the larger a US facing site, the greater the difficulty of getting money in or out ... Stars is the exception, as they are very nimble. FTP or Absolute are the cases in point. Bluntly put, why play at a site that cannot get you your cashouts ?

(I did not write this as a puff piece for Stars, I do not even play there. But if you are comparing CURRENT performance when it counts, i.e. getting you paid, is there any argument ?)

Finally, rakeback deals at smaller US facing sites are readily available.

Not sure what you are talking about... I cashed out at FTP the other day fine.

I too have had no problem cashing out at FTP..Stars has had there problems as well..

As for your question as of now for me it's ALL ABOUT size...The only sites I will play at is Stars and FTP...I will NEVER put money onto a site that has anything to do with sports betting...These 2 sites are also the only 2 a would fully trust under the current legal status we are dealing with..I have never been a conspiracy theorist or someone that would ever think a site was "rigged" but if there ever was a time for the sites to have the incentive it is now...With Stars and FTP I 100% trust my money and understand there may be delays with payment processor from time to time but I know they are working long hours to come up with work arounds...

I was only referring to posts here about delays, some lengthy, during which no FTP checks were being sent to US players. (I do not have any beef with FTP, I am sure they are doing the best they can, and think it is great if cashout issues and posts are a thing of the past.)

You equate size with safety, I take it ? That combined with a lack of sports-involvment ?

(I am not arguing, just asking. I happen to agree that
you will get your money from either Stars or FTP and that
sports betting raises a risk factor for your money.)

Also, size seems to equate with game integrity in your view ?

My general feeling is not different as to liquidity, my risk analysis would just address different risk factors ....summarized more like,

"Would size can make a US facing poker site the tallest weed in the garden"

What is the point here?

LOL, the point ? A discussion , rather than a diatribe ? I can use education, just like anyone else.

This is posted in Legislation because there seems to me there might be some increased legal exposure corrolated to size.

I am curious what the US market would look like if size constraints DID become an issue, either through legal action or business restraints on cash flowing into/out of the US.

Why is it dangerous to play at a site that also has sports betting? I have $10K at sportsbook.com

Sorry, in this sometimes US-centric Legislative forum, the discussion could have been more specific ..... a US facing sportsbook carries some added legal risk, compared to a poker-only site.

Why is there added legal risk?

Because the U.S. DOJ has a hard on for online sportsbooks.

So why throw Absolute in with FTP?
