In Super/System, Doyle Brunson writes about how he was diagnosed with cancer and given a few weeks to live. All of his friends even visited him with the attitude that it was going to be the last time they would see him alive. Then all of a sudden his cancer disappeared shocking doctors in the process.

Doyle attributes his sudden turn around from fatal cancer to his wife's act of organizing mass prayer sessions with friends.

Was this a placebo effect? Divine intervention? Wrong diagnosis? Lying from Brunson?

What role did faith play do you think? How important is faith in our lives?

He was all-in when he flopped flopped cancer and then he caught runner-runner remission and survives to this day.

But despite the drama there are no poker gods.

I would say placebo effect and wrong diagnosis are very unlikely causes of this. Still far more likely than divine intervention, of course, but not likely. If I had to guess, I'd lay blame on our lack of complete understanding of the cause, course and treatment of all types of cancer. Also, someone wins the lottery, someone is the tallest guy in the room, and someone manages to survive 'terminal' cancer.

Does Doyle think that no other cancer patients ever had prayer groups praying for them?

The only cancer patient I've heard of who did not pray and have their family/friends pray for them is that dude who blew it all on hookers and blow. He survived. Sample size?

what we should really do, is hold double-blind studies, where we have say 100 people with the exact same type of cancer, but have varying numbers of people praying for them at any given time. That way we can finally figure out how many people it takes to pump out the faith to cure cancer. We should then do this for every disease until we can harness all the prayer-power to cure disease and death all over the world. I will then put this prayer power into a vitamin like coral calcium and sell it to people along with a book and video.
