View Full Version : The Official King of the Zoo 2006 Kick-off Thread

King of the Zoo starts tomorrow at 9PM ET with $25+1 NLHE (all events this year except rebuys and Championship this year will be $25). We usually get a large turnout for our first several events of the year, so come join the fun. KotZ features some exceptional players, at least half dozen of which have appeared on TV final tables in major events, so come test your mettle against the best!

One change of note this year is that I'm dropping the post requirement for entering the events. You can be a lurker and play now. You just have to be registered here on 2+2 and have an account on Stars to play. Just send me email at td@kingofthezoo.com to get on the mailing list. Good luck to all in 2006!

Definately! We've played it the last two years and this year we have a $25 PLO event on 4/20 and a $10 rebuy PLO event on 9/14. We also play a PLO/8 event on 2/16. Check out the schedule (http://www.kingofthezoo.com/kotz/2006schedule.html) for all of our events. I try to include every form of poker Stars offers.

Only your top 12 scores will count, so you probably have to play at least that many. Of the top ten last year, all but one played at least 15 events with the average being 16.2. The exception being jpg777, our champ, who played only 13. He won two outright with many other money finishes.

All of our events start at 9PM ET. We have quite a few European players who stay up reeeeallly late to play in their time zone. So that event will start at 2PM ET which will be early evening in Europe.

eMarkM
01-05-2006, 02:59 PM
Ok, I am sending out PMs and responding to email for passwords. However, since I'm basically opening this up to lurkers and all this year, I will post the password to this thread about 10 minutes prior to the event. So if I don't get to you, please check this thread again at 8:50PM ET or so.

My only problem with this is that this will result in a lot of players who will show up whose 2+2 IDs I don't know. If you plan on competing for the crown and want to play in a lot of events, it is your responsibilty to inform me who you are on 2+2 so I can sync your ID with your Stars ID. If I don't have that info, you won't be eligible for the trophies at year end.

Given this new policy of more open passwords, I expect we could have a record turnout tonight.

Good job as usual, Ed. I'm already signed up.

This year, my goal is to win the trophy for the glory of the Klingon Empire. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Despite my 1 win and 2 2nds, 2005 was a disappointing KotZ year for me. Too many early exits and an uncooperative dealer in my two 2nd place finishes ruined my chance for victory.

It's alright. I made a pretty loose call, IMO -- but I was pretty sure that huge overbet steal wasn't anything that had me altogether too dominated, and I thought I was in pretty good shape against your range, which was pretty wide.

But it's still a pretty loose call, I think.

And, lastly, I was only still around because I hit a miracle 2-outer on the river against FieryJustice in the early stages.

Either way, gl.

It wouldn't surprise me too much to discover that the bulk of the KotZ participants don't really read this forum; maybe it's different now that the tournaments are more widely open. I, certainly, read this forum (and post here) far less than MTT.

Also, my point was sort of that while they were bad suckouts and questionable plays, dwelling on it this much and quasi table coaching isn't the greatest poker asset either.
