I called because I was curious about his hand. Until the river I had the feeling he just didn't believe me. On the river I had the feeling I had to pay off here. Looking back now the call just seems stupid.

Should I have bet more on flop/turn?

you played the hand perfectly and got very unlucky

i can't really put him on a backdoor flush or 3 7 b/c it is complete trash and you raised preflop

i might have actually raised on the river trying to rep the backdoor flush but that would depend on your table image
and at these limits it's probably negative ev

i might have overbet the turn trying to make it look like a bluff if you think he didn't believe you

i like the call on the river even though most of the time you are beat

Bet more on flop and turn, if villain is passive fold river.

The most important question is did you buddy list him? Definitely take notes and look for this guy.

I find it pretty difficult to find people who will call down 2 streets with a pair of 4s unimproved and no draws.

That guy is a gold mine.
