Open raising?

Okay so I've been reading pretty much everything I can get my mouse on around the uNL and SSNL forums and I've noticed people using the phrase "open raising". I'm a bit confused - isn't every raise "open" as it can always be RRed? Or does this mean that it's the first raise in an unraised pot PF? Thanks in advance for getting some of my n00b out.

Its just if the pot hasn't been opened yet (everyone has folded so far) then you can open-raise. Just think of it as folded to you.

If you are the first person to enter the pot you are "opening" the pot. So it means raising when youre first in, generally you should always open for a raise rather than limp in.
