Ok, so I've never really cared until now, but I'm just getting curious about the basics of gambling in the USA.

Why is it that casino's are allowed in AC and Las Vegas, but not in any other areas, unless on Indian reservations?(Is this even true anyways?)Edit: And if this is true, why are they allowed on indian reservations?

Follow up questions will come, just want to get this sorted out first.

I will take a stab at it. Indian reservations are sovereign nations and are allowed to offer class I & II games (slots, bingo, poker, etc.) so long as the state allows some form of gambling (e.g., lotto), but to offer class III games (blackjack, roulette, etc.) require a tribe-state compact.

As far a NV and NJ, the individual states regulate which class games they want to allow.

Our Constitution allows states to make laws that aren't expressly covered by it. States whimsically over reach, no one cares to defend against tyranny. We all suffer.

Ahh, so its the state's choice, and Nevada and New Jersey decided to allow it, while the other states don't?

And as for the states that don't allow it, Indian reservations can still have it because they are a sovereign nation?

I think I get it.

As for the follow-up, why is the lotto allowed in these states but not casinos?

The state profits directly from state-run lotteries. Most American politicians have no problem with the obvious hypocrisy of the situation because they are completely incapable of shame or embarrassment.
