Ignoring the merits of public funding, should the ratio of medical research focus between conditions/diseases that afflict kids versus the elderly be something like 100+:1?

Diseases affect the elderly far more frequently than they do children. Just a thought to include in your calculations.

I prefer to live in a country where 50% of the poplulation dies before reaching the age of 5, and the other 50% live to be 120. You waste a lot of resources on educating children during the first 20 years and it's basically an investment. Also young people are more prone to violence. Old people are non-violent, experienced, smart and CAN be mentally productive (retirement is a stupid invention for non-phisical jobs).

You mean where 50% of people die before age 5 and 50% of people are magically transformed into 60 year olds, right?

I hope not, no one's gonna fund my glaucoma research if this is the case. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
