It's only been a few orbits so I have no real idea of his betting ranges, but basically my 4-bet said to him: 'hey i got a big hand' and him pushing all-in says 'hey, i got an even bigger hand then you like AK/KK/AA'... I called his all-in, which meant that I was up for a coin-flip at best or being a 4-1 dog at worst...should i play it like this?

In the few orbits you had been on the table had he raised many hands? Was he seeing alot of flops? Were you playing fast or tight? These are all questions that need to be answered before you should expect to get a good answer on here. Usually I'd advocate calling his raise or folding to a push, but thats assuming both are TAG.
