...or is it justified caution. I just sat at this table and it's hand 5. There are zero reads.

I'm not sure my hand can stand a check raise here. With AQ I'd be more inclined to value bet, mostly because his lack of aggression after the flop could mean he has the same hand. I don't know. Is just one rank difference really justification for not value betting?

Thanks in advance.

I would make it ~$10 on the river. Also your turn bet is a bit small, I will check the turn sometimes too as it can induce a bluff, keep the pot a nice size, and you will get called lighter when you vb the river. Just make sure that your not giving away free cards to drawing hands when you check, its unlikely he had a backdoor FD on the flop so I don't really mind checking here.

I think you should fold preflop because if either of them bets the flop you have no idea if you are ahead or not.

Maybe I am being a wuss......... but if we asume he has an A, then you are beating only AT,A8,A6,A4,A2.... I would check behind on the river, more so because he was PF raiser.

I would be surprised to see AK/AQ/2pair play it so passively (small bet on flop, c/c turn, and check river). Also I think if you keep the river bet small you could be called by TT-KK.

i 3bet pf which would complete change everything but as played...i dont bet the turn to induce a bluff on river, if he doesnt bet the river then i value bet, w/ your line i think the only thing were gettin value out of is weaker aces and a few of these make 2 pair

I bet here due to very passive play on turn after you made a passive play on the flop.

He's got position so that is fine. Also there's no hurt in folding to further aggression.
