If I know Christopher Hitchens (though I guess I don't much), this should take the anti-religion attack to a whole new level of stridency and forcefulness.

Excerpts from Slate.com (http://www.slate.com/id/2165033/entry/2165035/)

well, not exactly stridency, since i like his writing...whatever

While some religious apology is magnificent in its limited way—one might cite Pascal—and some of it is dreary and absurd—here one cannot avoid naming C. S. Lewis—both styles have something in common, namely the appalling load of strain that they have to bear.

Intelligent Brits would rule the world if being able to completely tear apart ideas while still being wryly humorous was our standard for world rulers. Though it's a fairly dismal state of affairs when it takes a towering intellect just to make statements like "religion is man made"

I read a little of it at the bookstore, and wasn't very impressed. If I go back to the bookstore tomorrow, I'll read a little more and give you guys an update.

His book on Kissinger should be required reading IMHO.

The conumentary evidence he musters in that book is staggering.

Ok, I looked up "conumentary" and it is not in any dictionary I tried. Can I have a hint?

LOL RJ.

Couple comments about CH.

I remember him from Crossfire in the 80's. I thought then he was a loud mouth liberal, though articulate. I was surprised to find he's now a neo con. Perhaps one reason I thought he was loud mouthed is he was too lawyer-like - you get the feeling he would be comfortable arguing either side - his "thing" is the argument itself and his own (lol) brillance, not really the subject matter.

Case in point - one reviewer of this book on Amazon said he remembers when CH spoke glowingly of cigarette smoking - how it is one of the great discoveries of mankind. Wonder if CH now argues the other side.

Oh, and he was wrong about why Bonhoeffer was executed.

Also, I think he's only about 3 feet tall.

He used to be a trotskyite.

His very good at making nonsense sound plausible but the only thing he is a master at is being certain.

Yeah, I remember that attitude from Crossfire.

An articulate man with nothing to say. Might explain his bitterness. That or his shortness.
