My read on villian is that he is aggressive. Should
have I made a blocking bet on the river here? I thought it might be better to c/c. If I c/c, I keep from getting blown off the pot by a manaic villian raising 2 pair etc. I also thought I might give villian a chance to bluff. Any one call this river?

I'd pot the turn and fold the river. Bets like this are almost always a flush. I think if you start calling these you lose a lot more than you gain when you take the pot because he's bluffing.

I occassionally call down with position with middle pocket pairs on boards like this with the intention of bluffing the scare card so that I get some of this money that I lose in these situations back.

I'd be interesetd to hear what others do as I'm always tempted to call but I used to lose a lot of money doing this.

Also, if you call here you give him infinite implied odds in the future when he decides to call you down with a FD because he knows you'll pay off if you hit.

You have to fold, unless you have other information, such as the other player likes to bluff a lot.

If he had a flush draw, 4 out of 5 times you win that hand. In the long run what you did was great, as long as you don't call.

What size river bet would you call?

You're laying him 2.4:1 on the turn on a roughly 4.2:1 shot. Theoretically, the most you should pay off is ~8 bucks given the odds you gave him on the turn...
