View Full Version : NL 25 - JJ Overpair. Correct or Weak Laydown?

Villian was running pretty TAGish at 21/18/2.05 over 300 hands. Don't have any other specific reads other than the fact that he's folded to my c-bets for a while. I was extremely LAG, probably running around 40/25. I think this was the correct line, but my s-LAG roommate thinks I'm weak. Thoughts?

I disagree with this for a few reasons. 1) This board is relatively dry, so villian donking out here into 4 people represents strength. The only possible hands that I could be ahead of are A9, 97, 96 (I highly doubt he has the latter two), and TT. Raising here inflates the size of the pot and we'll almost definitely get shoved by 2-pair and probably a set / straight. However, if villian decides to get tricky and call any substantial raise (I'd say $10) with a set/straight, now we've basically committed ourselves to the pot because of his stack. I tried going for pot control on the flop but seeing his eagerness to inflate it, I quickly dumped my jacks.

call, check river when he assuredly checks. your image is horrible, i call down here.

Looks good. He isn't leading with a hand you beat here, he probably thinks you have exactly what you have.

I guess the question becomes what is the worst hand you can call him with? I think if we are folding JJ here, we should be folding AA as well, but I don't know if I would in this situation.

What do you think he has? I think it looks like 98 or a set.

Could you clarify (as in prior to this hand or afterwards)?

Also, do you call a river shove on a blank? At that point the only hand I can think of that we beat is TT.

Surely he's leading with A9 or K9 if he's a bad player or just an aggressive? We'll assume he's raising AA KK and QQ. Also are people really calling 98 preflop? Also would TJ play this way?

I often get in these situations and I don't know how to play them.

T9/TT/77/66/bluff are all in his range.
Call turn, fold to a river bet.

You can't seriously think he has 66/77 here or that he's bluffing. As I said, he's been running TAGish and hasn't done anything out of line. He just lead the flop into 4 people. Calling the turn + folding the river = spew in my opinion. The only other alternative lines I could possibly see as being +EV is perhaps calling down / raising the flop but I honestly think both are pretty thin. I'd like to hear more feedback from other people though.
