View Full Version : NL50: Stupid river play?

Villain was tight, fairly passive. My reasoning for betting this river was that a worse Ace might tag along. Looking back, I think checking behind is much better here as my hand has only marginal s/d value. Comments?

I raise preflop as does everybody who will respond to this. River is fine, I throw down a value bet here and fold to a raise from a "passive" player.

What you dont realise my friend is when you say "worse ace", theres only two of them. A5 has a straight, A2-4 have two pair, so its A6 and A8 that you beat only. Not looking so good.

I usually raise this preflop, but I guess a limp isnt SO bad given that you cant really play this for ace value. Still, I like to play Ax with fewer players rather than more. Turn is okay but given what I said about your opponents range on the river I like a c/c.

You are right in checking behind.

As ama0330 explained the river is pretty bad for you. You only really beat a seven or a bluff. Pretty easy river fold as played.

I'd like to raise/fold preflop due the player images.

Limping along is not the right play here.

I agree with ama. I also limp on the button at the right tables once in a while. Check river

Limping the button we are trying to avoid that with Ax hands imo. Or we raise or we fold. You have a bunch of ROI's on you neck.

I do raise most of the times, but limping Axs in position in a multiway pot once in a while is ok IMO. I also do this occasionaly with suited connectors, suited one gappers suited broadways. I think I raise 75% and limp 25%. On aggressive tables I prefer to raise or fold.

I only limp ATs+ in the SB... everywhere else it is raise or fold.
I hate limping. What are your stats cleaner?

usualy around 20/13.5/2.6. I play a little tigher more aggressive since I move up to 50NL.

What did you run at 25? I remember playing against you on Stars awhile back.

lol, am I the only one giving out info ??

those are my usual stats for 25NL when 4tabling. I do get much nittier when 10 tabling.

Well I don't play at Stars anymore, but ran 19/15/4 when I did. I just remembered you to be pretty aggro. It was awhile ago, though.

I bet bigger, probably $4 if I bet. Its thin but I usually make this bet. Obviously fold to raise.

edit: I grunched above. After reading ama's post I agree its too thin.

If you felt it was right to bet the river... betting $2 is a horrible bet (into a $5 pot.) It screams "take this away from me."

I would only make such a weak bet if I was trying to induce a bluff.
